Setting Sail on the Poseidon

The morning sun kissed the horizon as I arrived at the Waiʻanae Small Boat Harbor, eager to embark on the Dolphin Swim & Snorkel Adventure. The anticipation of swimming with wild dolphins and snorkeling with Hawaiian Green sea turtles had my heart racing. As a marine biologist, the allure of observing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat was irresistible.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by the warm and welcoming staff of Iruka Hawaii Dolphin. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and they quickly made me feel at ease. I learned that the tour I had originally booked had been canceled, but Iruka’s team went above and beyond to accommodate me on their tour. Their kindness and professionalism set the tone for what would be an unforgettable day.

As we boarded the 2023 All-American Marine Catamaran, Poseidon, I couldn’t help but admire the sleek design of the vessel. The promise of a thrilling adventure lay ahead, and I was ready to dive into the experience.

Dancing with Dolphins

The catamaran glided gracefully along Oahu’s stunning west coast, the ocean breeze invigorating my senses. As the boat approached a pod of dolphins, excitement rippled through the group.

With a splash, I joined the others in the water, the thrill of the moment washing over me. Swimming alongside these intelligent creatures was a dream come true. Their playful antics and graceful movements were mesmerizing, and I felt a profound connection to the ocean and its inhabitants.

For those who chose to stay on the boat, like one of the guests’ mothers, the view was equally spectacular. Snorkeling and Serenity

After the exhilarating dolphin swim, we made our way to Makaha, a renowned snorkel and surf beach. The vibrant underwater world awaited, and I was eager to explore. Equipped with snorkeling gear, I plunged into the crystal-clear waters, greeted by a kaleidoscope of colorful reef fish and the gentle presence of Hawaiian Green sea turtles.

Back on the boat, the adventure continued with a range of ocean activities. The 21-ft water slide was a hit among the younger guests, while others enjoyed stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking. As the day drew to a close, we were treated to a complimentary lunch and the soothing warmth of a hot shower, followed by a cup of green tea.

Reflecting on the day’s events, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to experience the wonders of West Oahu’s coastline.
