• Lago di Carezza - Departing from Bolzano, the gateway to the Dolomites and the capital of South Tyrol province, the journey begins. The route crosses the Ega Valley, which starts in Bolzano and extends eastward between the Rosengarten and Latemar mountains. This road, constructed in 1894 during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, leads to Carezza Lake, renowned as the most beautiful lake in the western Dolomites. Enjoy a 30-minute stop with an optional walk around the lake.
• Fassa Valley - The journey continues to Costalunga Pass, where the historic “Grand Hotel Carezza” is located. Built in 1893, it was the first luxury hotel in the Dolomites and hosted notable guests such as Empress Sissi, Winston Churchill, and Agatha Christie. From Costalunga Pass, the route leads to the Fassa Valley in Trentino, passing through the towns of Vigo di Fassa and Canazei, reaching the majestic peaks of the Sella Group.
• Sass Pordoi - From Costalunga Pass, the journey proceeds to the Fassa Valley in Trentino, passing through Vigo di Fassa and Canazei, arriving at the impressive Sella Group peaks. A series of 27 hairpin bends leads to the renowned Pordoi Pass, situated at an altitude of 2,239 meters (7,350 ft) above sea level. Enjoy a one-hour stay, with the option to take a cable car to Sass Pordoi, at an altitude of 2,950 meters. The cable car operates from late May to the end of October and from Christmas to Easter.
• Falzarego Pass - The route reaches the Falzarego Pass, marking the entrance to the eastern Dolomites.
• Cortina d’Ampezzo - Descending from Pordoi Pass, the journey continues through the village of Arabba, heading east to Falzarego Pass, the gateway to the eastern Dolomites. The next stop is Cortina d’Ampezzo, known as the “Pearl of the Dolomites,” Italy’s premier mountain resort and host of the 1956 Winter Olympic Games. Cortina, along with Milan, will host the Winter Olympics again in 2026.
• Lago di Misurina - From Cortina, the journey proceeds to Misurina Lake, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo. The lake, with views of the Three Peaks to the north and the Sorapis to the south, is the most iconic image of the Dolomites worldwide.
• Dobbiaco - Just 20 minutes from Misurina, there is an opportunity for a brief stop at another significant lake in the Eastern Dolomites, Lake Dobbiaco.
• Lago di Braies - From Dobbiaco, a 20-minute drive leads to the extreme northeast of Italy, a few kilometers from the Austrian border, culminating the day with a visit to the famous Braies Lake. From Braies, the return to Bolzano takes an hour and 40 minutes via the Pusteria Valley and then the Isarco Valley.
