• Nizwa Fort Oman - Dating back to the 17th century during the Al Ya’rubi dynasty, Nizwa Fort was constructed atop the remnants of a 9th-century castle. The impressive structure has been beautifully restored, with many rooms recreated to reflect their original use. Visitors can enjoy fascinating historical insights through various displays in numerous rooms. Don’t miss the prisoner room and the story of how local dates were used as a wartime weapon, transformed into a deadly cauldron of boiling date syrup. The views from the central tower are breathtaking and well worth the climb.
• Al Hamra - This unique museum feels more like an open house than a traditional exhibit. Three women guide visitors through their traditional home in the ancient and crumbling village of Al Hamra. They showcase the culinary skills of juniper-oil production, Omani bread-making, and coffee-bean grinding, with a chance for a photo opportunity in traditional regional attire. Sitting cross-legged in the majlis (reception room), surrounded by photos of local sheikhs, enjoying coffee and dates, and communicating with the ladies through sign language is an unforgettable experience.
