- Nizwa Souk - Exploring the Nizwa Souq is one of the top things to do in Oman. It is one of the oldest markets in the country and you will find fruit, meat, sweets, pottery, souvenirs and antiques… There is a lot to discover as you stroll through in the middle of the locals. Below is my guide to help you plan your visit. - Nizwa Fort Oman - The fort in Nizwa dates from the 17th century, during the Al Ya’rubi dynasty, and was built on top of the ruins of a 9th-century castle. The massive structure has been nicely restored, with many rooms set up to look as they did when the fort was in use; you’ll see interesting historic tidbits offered in various displays in many rooms. Be sure to check out the prisoner room and read about the wartime use for the local dates, which were turned into a deadly weapon in the form of a cauldron of boiling date syrup. The views from the central tower are spectacular and worth the climb. - Jebel Akhdar - Jebel Akhdar, known as the Green Mountains and considered one of the most scenic areas in Oman and part of the Hajar Mountains. Jebel Akhdar is named for the green terraced gardens surrounding the village that lead to the Saiq Plateau. For hundreds of years, this place was accessible only to donkeys. Pomegranates, apricots, apples, olives and grapes, roses, peaches, walnuts and many other fruits. All grow here. Wade Bani Habib, Shrejah, Al Ain and Al Aqur all have interesting hiking trails. - Birkat Al Mouz Ruins - The product duration inclBirkat Al Mouz (a.k.a Birkat al Mawz), Oman, is one of the most famous villages in ruins in the Sultanate. Nizwa and Jebel Akhdar with Yaqoob - The tour was very well organised, so I would highly recommend it. Yaqoob, our tour guide, was very helpful and respectful. He did his best to make the trip a memorable experience for everyone.

Unforgettable Tour with Haitham – A 7-Star Omani Sensory Immersive Experience Jabel Akhdar and Nizwa Rose Harvest Season - We had a truly outstanding tour with Oman Gid, and our guide Haitham made it exceptional from start to finish. We explored Nizwa and Jebel Akhdar, packed with cultural treasures, breathtaking landscapes, and hidden gems I won’t spoil—because some surprises are best experienced in the moment!
Haitham was absolutely fantastic—sincere, warm, and incredibly well-known and respected in Nizwa, Jebel Akhdar, and even at the hotels we passed. Locals greeted him with genuine joy, and we felt like part of something special because of how well we were treated everywhere we went.
He was always checking in on us, especially during the hike, making sure we were comfortable, safe, well-nourished, and hydrated. He even accommodated my husband joining for half the trip, without a hitch. The timing of the tour was perfect—we arrived back at our Airbnb on schedule, and Haitham made sure to maximize every moment without making us feel rushed.
We were lucky enough to arrive at Jebel Akhdar just before the rose harvest and bloom—an unforgettable sensory experience. The smells of fresh blossoms and native trees, the feel of the cool mountain air, and the changing textures of the terrain created an experience that felt completely natural, grounding, and real. No tourist gimmicks here—just the raw, beautiful heart of Oman.
Haitham took amazing pictures for us and guided us to stunning viewpoints at different heights so we could truly take in the majesty of the mountains. The entire experience was immersive, culturally rich, and deeply comforting. We felt not like clients, but like friends, and that personal warmth is what elevated the experience beyond anything we expected.
We actually booked this trip last-minute, after having a phenomenal tour with Oman Gid to Wadi Mibam a few days earlier—and once again, we were not disappointed. If anything, the high standards and genuine care from this company left us feeling like we’d received 7-star treatment.
Haitham is the embodiment of Omani hospitality, and thanks to him, this trip became the highlight of our time in Oman. We’ll never forget it, and we’ll definitely be booking with Oman Gid again.

Excellent day trip through the city of Nizwa and the mountains of Oman - Excellent tour to Nizwa Castle and the surrounding area. Walked through local markets, tasted sweets and tea. They inspected the fortress, it was once one of the ancient capitals of Oman - a city that is historically significant in which the ancient building and spirit of Oman has been preserved. Those who are passionate about history or love the beautiful nature will definitely be interested. Looked at the beautiful mountains in Oman, observation decks. I want to commend the professionalism of our guide, Faisal. He tried to show us as much as possible in the time available and we were happy with the tour! Recommend to those who will be in Oman!

Highly recommended - I highly recommend this tour. It has a bit of everything ... history, architecture, nature, shopping and food. We got to try so many different types of dates, with of course Omani coffee.
Our day was exceptional, all thanks to our amazing guide, Ali. He taught us about the country and what it is to be Omani.

A great day! - What a great day trip! Had three solo travelers and our guide Yaqoob who was great. Plenty of AC and water in the car to keep us cool. Saw the Grand Canyon, tried delicious foods at the souk, visited the fort, saw an abandoned village and had a great lunch in between. Highly recommend!

Nice trip to mountains! - Many thanks to the company GidOman and our guide for the amazing group tour to Nizwa and the mountains Jebel Akhdar!
We learned about the history of Oman and visited an ancient Nizwa fort. Then we had lunch in a nice restaurant and tried local dishes. After we went to the mountains, where we took amazing photos. Our guide was very attentive, he took into account all our wishes and answered all our questions.
