- Bayt Ar Ridaydah | بيت الرديدة - Known as Bayt Ar Rudaydah due to its proximity to an ancient dam that prevented valley waters from flooding Birkat Al Mawz in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate. Falaj Khatmayn, originating from Al Jabal Al Akhdar (Green Mountain) and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, passes by this castle.
Bayt Ar Rudaydah dates back to the seventeenth century. It is situated approximately 24 kilometers from Nizwa in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate, at the entrance of Wadi Al Muaydin. The castle blends defensive and traditional architectural elements, with its thick walls topped with brick clay towers, concealing architectural elegance revealed in multiple arches, painted ceilings, and intricate plaster engravings.
Bayt Ar Rudaydah Castle has been transformed into a heritage weapons museum showcasing the historical evolution of traditional weapons in Oman.
- ساقية الجزيرة - Birkat al Mouz is also an excellent location to explore the traditional Afalj / Falaj. This ancient irrigation system, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, consists of water channels dating back to 500 AD, exemplifying a system that is 5,000 years old.
- Harat As Sibani | حارة السيباني - Harat al Saybani was constructed as the main residence, likely equivalent to a family mansion in its prime. To the East, Harat al Maqasir appears to have been heavily fortified, offering a strategic view of the surrounding area. Research indicates that the fourth pillar in the settlement’s defenses, Harat al Wadi, shared many characteristics of a souq, suggesting it was a secure trading and marketing location.
- Bait AlSabah Heritage Inn & Cafe - This strategically located house is one of the best spots to view the ancient ruins of Birkat al Mouz and the surrounding area. Positioned above the village entrance, it is referred to as ‘Al Sabah al Garbi,’ aptly named as the gateway to history.
