A Journey to Ninh Binh: The Start of an Adventure

Leaving the bustling streets of Hanoi behind, I embarked on a day trip to Ninh Binh, a destination that had been on my radar for quite some time. Known for its stunning landscapes and rich history, Ninh Binh promised an adventure that I couldn’t resist. The day began with a comfortable ride in a luxury limousine, a pleasant surprise for a budget traveler like myself. The spacious seats and complimentary water made the journey to our first stop, Mua Cave, a relaxing experience.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by the sight of the limestone peak, a challenge that beckoned me to climb its 500 stone steps. As someone who enjoys a good hike, I was eager to take on the ascent. The climb was steep and the steps narrow, but the panoramic view from the top was worth every drop of sweat. The sight of the countryside and the Ngo Dong River stretching out below was breathtaking, a moment that made me appreciate the beauty of Vietnam even more.

Exploring History at Hoa Lu Ancient Capital

After the invigorating hike, our next stop was the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital. This historical site offered a glimpse into Vietnam’s past, with its ancient temples dedicated to the Dinh and Le Kings. Our guide, Harvey, shared fascinating stories about the feudal dynasties, bringing the history to life in a way that only a knowledgeable local could.

The visit to Hoa Lu was brief, but it was enough to spark my curiosity about Vietnam’s rich cultural heritage. We also had the option to cycle around the local village, a fun activity that allowed us to see a bit of the local life. Although the bike ride was short, it was a refreshing change of pace and a chance to stretch our legs before lunch.

A Scenic Boat Ride Through Trang An

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the boat ride through Trang An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As we glided through the water, surrounded by towering limestone karsts and lush greenery, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace. The boat ride was a leisurely two-hour journey, with the option to help row if we wanted to.

Sitting on the hard bench for two hours was a bit challenging, but the stunning scenery more than made up for it. The caves and casts we passed through were awe-inspiring, and I found myself wishing we had more time to explore the temples along the way. Despite the haze, the beauty of Trang An was undeniable, and it was a fitting end to a day filled with adventure and discovery.

As we made our way back to Hanoi, I reflected on the day’s experiences. The Ninh Binh day trip was a perfect blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, offering a taste of what this incredible region has to offer.
