As the gentle winds of March sweep through the streets of Ứng Hòa, the city comes alive with the spirit of Women’s Day. This celebration is not just a tribute to women but a homage to the rich tapestry of Vietnamese culture and craftsmanship. The overcast skies and mild temperatures create a perfect backdrop for exploring the city’s vibrant craft villages and indulging in its culinary delights.

Start your journey on March 8th with a Craft Village Tour that begins at 8:00 AM. This full-day exploration takes you through the heart of Vietnam’s traditional craft villages, where you can witness the meticulous art of incense making in Quang Phu Cau. The village is a photographer’s paradise, with neatly arranged piles of incense sticks creating a vibrant mosaic of colors. As you stroll through the village, you’ll gain insights into the history and challenges faced by these artisans, making it a truly enriching experience.

“A perfect day… - Our day with you was rich in emotion…the visit to the village of Ancens is very good…the silk village a little less…but tee also introduced us to Vietnamese specialties and he took us along the street where the train passes and it was a magnificent moment to absolutely do..Tee also introduced us to his world..Thank you Tee for this timeless moment….” (Reviewed at: 2024-02-21)

After a morning of cultural immersion, enjoy a rustic lunch at a local restaurant, savoring the authentic flavors of Vietnamese cuisine. The tour continues with a visit to the Van Phuc Silk Village, where you can admire the intricate silk creations that have been a part of Hanoi’s heritage for centuries. Conclude your day with a leisurely walk through the Old Quarter, where the bustling streets and local food stalls offer a glimpse into the everyday life of Hanoi’s residents.

Discovering the Art of Incense Making

On March 9th, embrace the rainy weather by diving into the world of incense making with the Incense Experience starting at 8:30 AM. This immersive experience takes you to an incense village located nearly 30 kilometers from the center of Hanoi. As you journey to the village, you’ll be introduced to the histories of ancient craft villages, including those specializing in knife making, hat making, and cloth dyeing.

Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed into traditional craft houses where you can try your hand at making incense sticks. The process is both meditative and rewarding, allowing you to connect with the spiritual essence of this ancient craft. Enjoy a traditional lunch at the village’s restaurant, where the dishes are as rich in flavor as they are in history.

“Pleasantly Wonderful Discoveries - Getting to know Hanoi through Duc was fun, the experience full of learnings. We appreciate how accommodating he is. Enjoyed the drive to the countryside to visit the incense village and even tried our hand at dyeing the sticks and setting them out to dry. Loved the egg coffee in a cafe in one of the oldest houses of Hanoi. Overall enjoyed the day.” (Reviewed at: 2023-06-18)

Before heading back to the city, take the opportunity to purchase unique souvenirs crafted by the villagers, each piece a testament to the skill and dedication of these artisans. This experience not only honors the craftsmanship of the region but also provides a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of incense in Vietnamese traditions.

Celebrating Women’s Day with Culinary Delights

No celebration of Women’s Day in Ứng Hòa would be complete without indulging in the city’s culinary offerings. Throughout your journey, you’ll have the chance to taste some of the best Vietnamese dishes, from the famous pho to the unique egg coffee. These culinary experiences are not just about the food but about the stories and traditions that accompany each dish.

As you explore the craft villages and engage with the local artisans, you’ll find that food is an integral part of the cultural narrative. Whether it’s enjoying a hearty breakfast before your tour or savoring a traditional lunch in the heart of a craft village, each meal is a celebration of the flavors and heritage of Vietnam.

The overcast skies and occasional rain showers add a touch of romance to the experience, making it an ideal time to cozy up in a local café with a warm cup of egg coffee.
