Polish Experience In Greenpoint
Henry Norman Hotel
Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop
One of the best classic donuts you'll ever eat can be found at Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop. You can order to go, or sit at the counter. Called a “hallmark of Greenpoint” is this “old-timey” Manhattan Avenue shop that’s been selling “cheap”, “delicious” donuts in a “crazy” array of flavors for more than six decades. Either way, beware, these donuts are addictive!
Take a stroll down to Manhattan Avenue. Manhattan Avenue is the main street in Greenpoint. Greenpoint holds the second largest concentration of Polish immigrants in the United States. There are a number of polish bakeries, meat markets, specialty shops and restaurants that surround Manhattan Avenue. In addition, Just take a walk around some of the landmarked streets with names like India and Java. Check out beautiful Guernsey Street, between Meserole and Norman Avenues.
Relax @ WNYC Transmitter Park
The park includes an overlook to the south, seating, and a waterfront esplanade. The center of the park includes a large, open lawn with a separate children’s play area featuring a nautical theme to reflect the site’s context. It also includes a spray shower and nature gardens. A pedestrian bridge has been restored as a wetland accessible to visitors. At the end of Kent Street is a recreational pier, featuring opportunities for fishing and a view of the Manhattan skyline and East River.
I would stay at: The Henry Norman Hotel
Surrounded by the flourishing film stages and production offices that have revolutionized and transformed Greenpoint’s industrial sector, the hotel is just down the street from the idyllic Msgr. McGolrick Park, perfect for strolling through its paved lanes, sitting on benches under its majestic grand trees, and taking photos in front of the historic bandstand and monument. The Henry Norman Hotel is part of an area that still holds a local community and small neighborhood allure. At the same time, it is less than a mile to North Williamsburg, which has transformed into one of the hippest and trend setting areas in all of New York City.
