Free Second Sunday, great art! - We went on the free Second Sunday of the month (get tix in advance) and while it was crowded, it was not uncomfortably so. The Calder's Circus exhibit was amazing - seeing the figures was interesting, then watching the movie of Calder performing the circus really brought it all to life. Other floors had interesting art as well - we started by taking the elevator to the top then worked our way down via the stairs. Take the staircase facing the river for great views. They also had live performances going on in the lobby. Chelsea market is nearby for lunch!

Beautiful architecture with an impressive collection - Beautiful museum and slightly less frequented than the MoMA and those on Museum Mile but certainly worth a visit also for the interesting architecture. We were lucky that an Alexander Calder exhibition was on when we visited.

We just saw the Amy Sherald exhibit! - We just saw the Amy Sherald exhibit and were blow away. What an absolutely fantastic array of her portraits. The display was perfect and we really enjoyed the accompanying film. After viewing this exhibit, we also saw: "untitled" (America)". We loved that one too.

Nice discovery! - The Witney Museum is a pleasant museum located near the Hudson River at the end of the High Line and not far from Chelsea Market. Beautiful works by contemporary American painters. Start at the top floor and visit downhill. A little disappointment: the terraces were closed! Too bad... If you can, go on a Friday: it's FREE FRIDAY! But you still have to book a tour schedule (from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.) . Booking is only made 1 WEEK before , very precisely .

Smaller collection with outstanding views - Beautiful building with nicely laid out galleries. It was pouring rain when we were there so they closed all the terraces, but easy to see they have beautiful views in all directions. Much smaller collection than Moma or Met, but same price of admission...though I'm sure they have many fewer visitors so understandable to charge more relative to what you're getting. And neither Met nor Moma have such outstanding views. I'm not a modern art aficionado, but did enjoy many of the pieces and appreciate the effort that has gone into curating an American collection. Had a good pastry at the café up top. Not busy on a rainy Wednesday in August.

A beautiful museum with different exhibitions - The discovery of an American artist, Amy Sherald who makes the painting close to the photo. Realism blew me away. You feel like you see the souls of the characters. Christine Sun Kim’s exhibition provides an interesting concept but the works are disappointing to see, as are some of the other modern works presented that come closer to mere waste or too abstract concepts without seeing the work done. The whole is visited in a beautiful, clean building where one alternates between the inside and the outside. A beautiful museum, then.
