On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, the NYSE’s opening was delayed following the first plane’s impact on the World Trade Center’s North Tower, and trading was canceled for the day after the second plane hit the South Tower. NASDAQ also halted trading. The NYSE Building, along with nearly all banks and financial institutions on Wall Street and in many cities nationwide, was evacuated. -
