The most engaging, interesting tour of one of NYC's most incredible neighborhoods - I have taken several tours with Free Tours by Foot and Tours by Foot in NYC (Central Park, Greenwich Village) and in Europe. And more than one with trained theater actors. Each and every one was excellent. But the Soul of Harlem tour last week with "Lady" Altovise was hands down the best ever. She was so knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly engaging -- she had us all literally at the edge of our "seats" while we were standing! But even more compelling was the deep passion, alongside context and nuance, to the complex, multi-layered chapters in the neighborhood's (and NYC's) rich history and iconic figures. I cannot recommend this tour enough and Lady Altovise as the tour guide!

The Harlem experience - We had a great tour of Harlem with Ronald. Loved his intimate knowledge of the history and the neighborhood! We learned about the roots, culture and heroes of Harlem, from medical professionals who invented life changing technology, the church that was part of the underground railroad and famous writers who lived in the neighborhood. We also got to see the speakeasy (still in business!) where Ella Fitzgerald sang! Definitely a great experience!

Ronald was great, and Harlem was fun! - My sister and I took a fabulous tour of Harlem with Ronald. He was knowledgeable, well-researched and fun. From the street of speak-easys (think Billie Holiday) to the home of Scott Joplin, we learned so much! He even gave us directions to the subway at the end of the tour. I highly recommend Ronald and this tour, especially if you want to see a real NYC neighborhood.

Lady Altovise Made Our Day! - Lady Altovise is a fantastic tour guide. She has such a vibrant personality and a wealth of information. The only issue was I was told through Viator that we could meet our guide at the Apollo Theater and be taken to the first stop. Thankfully, Lady Altovise sent me a text, and because we were running late, I called her and told her we weren't going to make it to the Apollo by 1:30 pm. She informed me that the Apollo meeting site was not accurate and that I was the second person who was told that. She apologized and we were able to get to the Schomburg Center shortly after 2 pm and Lady Altovise welcomed us with exuberance. I would recommend this tour with the highest rating.
