An amazing first day in Harlem, thanks to Ronald, our guide! - Our first time in Harlem, and Ronald was a perfect guide! We learned so much about Harlem and its history, heritage and culture! He also showed us wonderful initiatives that are being created and sustained by volunteers in the community! Ronald made it fun by asking our group questions about Black History, and showing us where famous Black artists, musicians, writers, inventors, scholars, and leaders lived. He was funny (when you go, try to get a "high five!), endearing (made a point to connect with a story with the places that each of us was from), and truly a beloved neighbor (saying hello to folks as they passed by our group and stopping to say "hi" to his friends who were sitting outside.) After the tour, we stayed in Harlem to find the stoop where A Great Day in Harlem photo was taken (thanks, Ronald for telling us where to find it!). And then, based on Ronald's suggestions, we stayed for dinner at Sylvia's and went to a local speakeasy to listen to amazing Jazz. It was our 27th wedding anniversary, and, we want to thank Ronald for making it a day of exploring, learning, and laughter! Your love and pride of Harlem was infectious - we plan on visiting again! Blessings to you!

Tour of the people of Harlem not how the neighborhood came to be significant in black American culture - Ronald was our tour guide, and he brought a lot of energy and humor to the experience. He was engaging and clearly passionate about the subject matter, which made the tour enjoyable. The tour focused primarily on the notable Black individuals who lived in Harlem rather than the history of Harlem itself or how the neighborhood became such an important center of Black American history during the Harlem Renaissance and beyond. We walked through different parts of Harlem as Ronald pointed out the homes and stories of various prominent Black figures. He also discussed some people who never actually lived in Harlem, which occasionally made the theme of the tour feel less focused. One drawback was that Ronald frequently went off on tangents that weren’t directly related to the tour or Harlem. For example, there was an extended discussion about Marcus Garvey that didn’t really tie back to Harlem or the locations we were visiting. While the information was interesting, these detours sometimes disrupted the flow of the tour and took time away from learning more about the neighborhood itself. Overall, Ronald was an entertaining and enthusiastic guide, but I would have appreciated a stronger focus on Harlem’s history and significance, with fewer off-topic diversions.
