• Central Park Carousel - Annually, approximately 250,000 individuals enjoy a ride on the Central Park Carousel. This iconic attraction has been a beloved feature since its original opening in 1871.
• Wollman Rink - Since its opening in 1949, Wollman Rink has been a cherished Central Park attraction for many years. Ice skating during the fall and winter is a favorite activity for both New Yorkers and tourists. Skaters can glide across the ice beneath a starry sky, surrounded by the magnificent Manhattan skyline!
• Chess & Checkers House Visitor Center - Constructed in 1952, the Chess & Checkers House provides a space for visitors of all ages to enjoy games. The octagonal brick structure is surrounded by 24 game tables, shaded by a wooden trellis.
• The Dairy Visitor Center and Gift Shop - The Dairy, located in the Children’s District, was initially designed to cater to the needs of children visiting Central Park. Before the early 20th century, playgrounds as we know them today did not exist, making the Children’s District, completed in 1872, the only area in the Park specifically dedicated to young visitors.
• Central Park’s Literary Walk - This broad, straight path, lined with two rows of American elm trees, was designed by Park creators Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux as a formal promenade and gathering area. Visitors can experience this landscape much like they would have in the 19th century: strolling, sitting, people-watching, listening to music, contemplating monuments, and admiring trees.
• Balto Statue - Balto gained fame after a heroic journey across Alaska. In January 1925, a diphtheria outbreak threatened the town of Nome, Alaska. Due to weather conditions, transporting vaccines from Anchorage by plane was impossible. A relay of dog-sled teams and mushers became the only solution. Twenty teams carried the vaccine nearly 700 miles in blizzard conditions, completing the journey in just five days and seven hours. They faced minus 30-degree Fahrenheit temperatures, ice floes, and 5,000-foot mountain peaks.
• Rumsey Playfield - While much of Central Park has remained largely unchanged since its inception, Rumsey Playfield has undergone numerous transformations. Situated on a hill overlooking the Concert Ground, the site originally featured a restaurant designed by Park co-designer Calvert Vaux, known as the Casino. (The restaurant did not involve gambling; the name means “little house” in Italian.)
• Conservatory Water - The main attraction is an ornamental pond, also referred to as the Model Boat Pond, where children and hobbyists launch and race miniature sailboats and yachts. These are stored and rented at the nearby Kerbs Boathouse, which also includes a cafe.
• Loeb Boathouse - Positioned on the eastern edge of the Lake, Loeb Boathouse is renowned as the starting point for rowboats, providing visitors with an ideal way to explore one of the Park’s most significant landscapes.
• NYC Central Park Horse Carriage Rides since 1858 - At the top of the Fountain is the sculpture Angel of the Waters, a bronze figure of a robed angel with raised wings. She gracefully steps on a stone that releases water. The water cascades from the sculpture into two basins, filling a large circular pool.
• Cherry Hill - The Cherry Hill Fountain is situated at the center of the carriage concourse atop Cherry Hill. This ornate fountain is unique, featuring a stone base topped with a finial that combines small saucers for birds to drink from and a light fixture with eight globes. Water drips from the saucer onto a granite and tile base before spilling into a bluestone basin.
• Bow Bridge - Created as a major entrance to the Ramble and a connection to a path leading to Bethesda Terrace, it offers expansive views of the Lake and surrounding landscapes. It is one of the most photographed features in the Park and is renowned for its romantic ambiance, often serving as the site for wedding proposals.
• Daniel Webster Monument - The monument to American lawyer and statesman Daniel Webster (1782–1852) is located along the West Drive near 72nd Street. The bronze figure depicts him gazing into the distance, about to deliver a speech, with his right hand tucked into the front of his coat and a stack of books at his feet.
• Strawberry Fields, John Lennon Memorial - Strawberry Fields is a tribute to British rock musician and peace activist John Lennon (1940–1980). The memorial encompasses a five-acre landscape near the West 72nd Street entrance and includes the Imagine mosaic, where many gather to honor Lennon. The memorial’s name references the 1967 song Lennon wrote and performed with the Beatles, “Strawberry Fields Forever.”
• Tavern On the Green - Tavern on the Green, a restaurant located in the historic building once known as the Sheepfold, has been a destination for fine dining in Central Park since the 1930s.
• Sheep Meadow - As one of Central Park’s most renowned and significant landscapes, Sheep Meadow epitomizes the Park’s primary purpose as a retreat from urban life.
• Pinebank Arch - Pinebank Arch is a distinctive ornamental feature in the southern end of Central Park, characterized by its elegant cast-iron bridge spanning the bridle path.
