- Lantau Island - Often called the ‘Lungs of Hong Kong’ due to its lush greenery and minimal development, Lantau Island is a must-visit. Join us for a tour to see the impressive Big Buddha and the charming stilt village of Tai O.
Our Private Lantau Tours last 7 hours, extending to 8 hours with hotel pick-up.
The Lantau private tour begins with a ride on the Ngong Ping Cable Car, offering breathtaking views of Lantau Country Park and the airport during the 25-minute journey across the island. The tour’s highlight is the renowned Big Buddha, where you can learn about Buddhism, ascend the 268 steps to the Buddha, and explore the Po Lin Monastery and the hall of 10,000 Buddhas.
From Ngong Ping, a 20-minute bus ride takes you to Tai O, affectionately known as the Venice of Hong Kong. Tai O is one of the few places in Hong Kong where stilt houses over the water can still be seen. Once a thriving community, Tai O has become a popular tourist spot due to the decline of the fishing industry, attracting both international visitors and locals seeking a break from city life. Tai O is famous for its traditional shrimp paste production and vibrant seafood market.
- Ngong Ping 360 - Experience a thrilling ride on the Ngong Ping 360 cable car for a stunning aerial view of Hong Kong’s natural and historical landmarks.
Upon exiting the cable car, you’ll enter the culturally themed 1.5-hectare Ngong Ping Village, where a variety of shops and eateries provide a delightful shopping and dining experience.
- Po Lin (Precious Lotus) Monastery - Nestled among lush mountains, the remote Po Lin Monastery gained popularity with the erection of the remarkable Tian Tan Buddha statue (commonly known as the Big Buddha) in 1993.
Po Lin Monastery is one of Hong Kong’s most significant Buddhist sanctuaries, often referred to as ‘the Buddhist World in the South’. It is home to many devoted monks and is rich with vibrant Buddhist iconography, while its serene garden is filled with birdsong and floral fragrances.
- Tian Tan Buddha (Big Buddha) - The Tian Tan Buddha, or Big Buddha, is the world’s second-largest outdoor sitting bronze Buddha statue. Standing 34 meters tall and facing north to watch over the Chinese people, this magnificent bronze Buddha attracts pilgrims from across Asia.
The eyes, lips, head tilt, and raised right hand, which offers a blessing to all, contribute to the Buddha’s profound character and dignity. It took 12 years to complete this colossal statue. Climb the 268 steps for a closer view of this extraordinary statue and to enjoy the expansive mountain and sea vistas from its base.
- Tai O Stilt Houses - Tai O is home to the Tanka people, a community of fisherfolk who have built their homes on stilts above the tidal flats of Lantau Island for generations. These unique structures are interconnected, forming a close-knit community that literally lives on the water. Their captivating world is a photographer’s dream.
The manually operated drawbridge spanning the narrow creek dividing the town replaced a rope-drawn ‘ferry’ that operated for over 85 years.
- Tai O - Visit the Heritage Hotel, originally the Tai O Police Station built in 1902, one of the earliest police stations in the New Territories. It is located on a small hill next to the Tai O Ferry Pier.
The building was revitalized and transformed into the Tai O Heritage Hotel in 2012. The hotel features nine colonial-style rooms and suites with sea views and a rooftop restaurant serving Tai O specialties. The surrounding cannons, searchlight, and guard towers have all been restored. Lunch will be served here at the end of your tour.
