Butterflies, Ancestors, and the Egun Tree - This unforgettable walking tour offers more than just a glimpse into New Orleans’ voodoo culture—it opens a doorway into the deep roots of African Traditional Religions (ATRs), honoring both ancestry and spirituality. Led by High Priestess Malika, the experience felt authentic, respectful, and alive. Her energy and knowledge captivated our group from start to finish, and she welcomed every question with care and clarity. One of the most powerful moments was visiting the sacred Egun tree—I truly felt its energy. A beautiful surprise: the appearance of butterflies (you’ll have to take the tour to learn why they matter). We also stopped by the home of Marie Laveau - a memorable moment. If you're curious about voodoo beyond the myths, this tour is a must. It’s spiritual, historical, and deeply human. Highly recommend.

Miss the French Quarter "voodoo" nonsense - THIS is the tour you want to go on! - This is such a vital tour for understanding New Orleans, and to a larger extent the US - don't waste your time w/ French Quarter "voodoo" related things & doing this first as a baseline - Malika was an amazing guide & her depth of knowledge, based in her actual practice rather than some passing interest/commodification, was such a gift to our experience! Cannot recommend this enough for folks open & willing to learn!

Voodoo and NO history - Matilda was a fount of knowledge not only regarding Voodoo but also the history of New Orleans from the West Africans journey. Great educational tour, very little walking for those of you who can't walk far this is the tour for you also.

Highly Recommend - Malika was a fantastic guide and wonderful storyteller. As two people who had no understanding of Vodou we learned so much from her. Would highly recommend.

Gem of a tour! - I can't say enough how grateful I was to begin my very first morning in NOLA with this tour <3 Malika was incredibly warm, funny, and a wealth of information—the two hours flew by, and honestly I could've hung out all day with her! As other reviewers have said, this was the best tour I've ever taken: a joyful, insightful deep-dive into the history of the city, its spiritual roots, and African Traditional Religions. All I can say is: BOOK THIS TOUR. And also: Thank you so much Malika! :)

Loved our experience! - The entire tour is in Louis Armstrong Park, the guide did an excellent job imparting information while walking the group from site to site. She was warm, funny and took the time to ask about and get to know each group if not individual on the tour. Highly recommend!
