• Masonic Temple Cemetery #2 - Established in 1865 by the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana Free and Accepted Masons, the Masonic Cemetery stands out from the predominantly Catholic cemeteries in the city. It is renowned for its unique and intricate tombs, a reputation partly due to the communal efforts of lodge members who combined resources to acquire large group tombs. Spanning two uniquely shaped city blocks, the cemetery is triangular in layout, with Conti Street running through it. The triangular shape of the surrounding streets, combined with the cemetery’s angular internal pathways, reflects the Masonic symbol of the square and compass. Two distinct sections are enclosed by cast-iron picket fences, and oak allées line the northern and western borders. Tombs are neatly arranged in rows parallel to Bienville Street, with a broad, paved promenade providing access to smaller paths between the rows.
