• Masonic Temple Cemetery #2 - Established in 1865 by the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana Free and Accepted Masons, the Masonic Cemetery stands out from the predominantly Catholic cemeteries in the city. It is renowned for its unique and elaborate tombs, a reputation partly due to its communal nature, where lodge members combined resources to acquire large group tombs. Spanning two uniquely shaped city blocks, the cemetery is triangular in design, with Conti Street running through it. The triangular layout of the surrounding streets, combined with the cemetery’s angular internal pathways, reflects the Masonic emblem of the square and compass. Two distinct sections are enclosed by cast-iron picket fences, while oak allées border its northern and western sides. Tombs are neatly arranged in rows parallel to Bienville Street, with a broad, paved promenade providing access to smaller pathways between the rows.
