Arrival and Sigiriya

Sigiriya Lion Rock - This globally recognized historical site is situated in the Matale District of Sri Lanka. According to Sri Lankan history, King Kashyapa constructed this Lion’s Rock to hide from his brother’s attacks. After the king’s demise, Sigiriya became a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century.

Pidurangala Rock - Ancient chronicles reveal that Prince Kashyapa killed his father, King Dhatusena, and fled to Sigiriya to find a more secure location to avoid retaliation from his half-brother, Mugalan. Upon King Kashyapa’s arrival, the meditating Bhikkus were asked to relocate to nearby Pidurangala.

Kandy

Royal Botanic Gardens Peradeniya Kandy - This botanical garden was considered the royal garden during King Vikramabahu III’s reign from 1747 to 1780. It is said that King Rajadhirajasinghe later built a temporary residence in the Peradeniya Botanic Gardens, and in 1780 it was declared the Royal Garden.

Bomburu Ella Waterfall - Known as the widest waterfall in Sri Lanka, Bomburu Ella Falls, also called Perawella Falls, is a natural masterpiece. Fed by the upper segment of the Uma River’s main tributary, the waterfall is a collection of small jungle waterfalls that merge to create a 165-foot cascade.

Victoria Park of Nuwara Eliya - Victoria Park is a public park located in Nuwara Eliya, next to the Nuwara Eliya Post Office in Sri Lanka. Originally, the park served as the research field of Hakgala Botanical Garden. It was formally named in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

Hakgala Botanic Gardens - Rising to an elevation of 5600 ft/1700 meters a few miles from Nuwara Eliya, the Hakgala Gardens were established in 1860. Initially a cinchona plantation, it was later developed into an experimental garden for acclimatizing plants from temperate zones to the tropics.

Mirissa

Yala National Park - Located in Sri Lanka’s southeast, bordering the scenic Indian Ocean, Yala was designated a wildlife sanctuary in 1900 and became a national park in 1938. Ironically, the park was initially a hunting ground for the elite under British rule. Yala is home to 44 mammal species and 215 bird species.

Udawalawe National Park - The national park was originally created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir in 1972. The reservoir, surrounded by open plains and foothills, is continuously replenished by the River Walawe, which draws its waters from the central highlands.

Nine Arches Bridge - The Nine Arch Bridge, also known as the ‘Bridge in the Sky,’ was constructed by connecting two bog mountains during the construction of the Badulla – Colombo railway. This bridge is 300 feet long, 25 feet wide, and 80-100 feet high. It is one of the finest examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country.

Galle

Coconut Tree Hill - Coconut Tree Hill is a lateritic headland in Mirissa, Sri Lanka, located adjacent to the Indian Ocean. It is a popular tourist destination in the country.

Parrot Rock Bridge - Parrot Rock is a small rock island about 50 feet away. This isolated viewpoint offers one of the most scenic and best views of Mirissa.
