• Madu Ganga Biodiversity Area - This mangrove lagoon, connected to the sea by a narrow canal, comprises 15 islands of varying sizes, some of which are inhabited. It consists of two shallow water bodies, Maduganga and the smaller Randombe Lake, linked by two narrow channels. The islands and shores, with relatively undisturbed mangrove vegetation, boast rich biodiversity, meeting 7 Criteria of International Importance. Many globally and nationally endangered, endemic, and rare species, such as the endemic and endangered plant Shorea affinis, the vulnerable Mugger (Crocodylus palustris) listed in the IUCN Red Book, and the CITES-listed endangered Purple-faced Leaf Monkey (Trachypithecus vetulus), Estuarine Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), Flapshell Turtle (Lissemys punctata), and Indian Python (Python molurus) find refuge here. The lagoon serves as a breeding, spawning, and nurturing ground for numerous fish species and supports 1.2% of the Little Green Heron biogeographical population.
