Negombo Beach - Welcome to the Pearl of the Indian Ocean! Meet and greet your professional guide at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), who will assist with your luggage and escort you in a private air-conditioned vehicle through the picturesque, sunlit streets of Negombo to your first hotel. Today is yours to enjoy; explore the canals, lagoons, or relax on the beach to get your base tan. In the evening, join the group for a welcome dinner and drinks as we explore the town.

Golden Temple of Dambulla - Start your day with a delightful breakfast at the hotel before boarding a private bus to Sigiriya. En route, we’ll stop to explore the magnificent Dambulla Caves, where history and religion echo from every painted wall and stone Buddha statue, offering an unparalleled sense of spirituality. We then proceed to our stunning hotel in Sigiriya, the jewel of the Cultural Triangle.

Pidurangala Rock - Conclude our epic day with a sunset climb to the serene Buddhist monastery of Pidurangala, providing an open and unobstructed view of what we’ll be climbing the next morning!

Sigiriya

Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - Rise early, lace up your hiking shoes, grab your camera, and set out to climb the incredible Sigiriya Rock. This majestic rock, rising proudly from the earth, is surrounded by ruins of a grand palace, offering a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s noble and tumultuous history. Discover ancient wall paintings, the Sanskrit-marked mirror wall, and the massive stone lion paws guarding the ascent to the summit. The views from the top are unmatched as you journey through time exploring the ruins.

Minneriya National Park - This afternoon, you have the option to embark on an additional safari in Minneriya National Park, where elephants roam the land (note: this safari is included during the whale watching off-season). To satisfy your hunger, we’ll visit a local family for lunch, where they will prepare a traditional feast before you relax on a lounger in the afternoon sun.

Sigiriya Craft Village - In the evening, take the opportunity to tour the village and experience the best of Sri Lankan culture. Learn about ancient village life by riding a tuk-tuk, taking a bullock cart ride, tasting traditional Sri Lankan food with hands-on cooking, riding a catamaran on a lake, and more.

Cultural Triangle!

Matale Herbal and Spice Garden - Today, we bid farewell to Sigiriya and travel towards Sri Lanka’s second-largest city, Kandy. On the way, we’ll stop at a spice garden to learn about the origins of our favorite spices and participate in a cooking class to discover the secrets of a perfect Sri Lankan curry! Our local chef will teach you how to make dhal and chicken curry, as well as fried cashew coconut sambal and poppadoms.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - We continue our journey to Kandy, check into our next accommodation, and explore the vibrant city, visiting the Temple of the Sacred Tooth, a revered shrine said to house Buddha’s tooth.

Kandy Lake Club - Cultural Dance Show - In the evening, enjoy the Cultural Dance Show, where you can witness the beautiful fire dance and immerse yourself in the vibrant colors of Sri Lankan culture.

Scenic Train Ride Yes!

Kandy - Savor your breakfast overlooking the hills of Kandy before heading to Kandy Railway Station. A trip to Sri Lanka is incomplete without experiencing life on the train, and the journey from Kandy to Nanu Oya is renowned as one of the best in the world. Enjoy 180-degree views of tea plantations, waterfalls, lakes, and local villages as your train winds through the mountainside. Try the sweet milk tea on board, chat with friendly locals, and capture photos that will make your friends back home envious.

Relax and enjoy the scenic drive through misty mountains and lush green tea plantations while your coach awaits your arrival at Nanu Oya Railway Station.

Pedro Tea Factory - The hills are alive with small green tea plants for which Sri Lanka is famous. We’ll visit a working tea factory to learn how tea is processed and ends up in your cup at home, discovering how seven different types of tea are made from the same plant!

Udawalawe National Park - Continue south and check into our fantastic campsite, just 45 minutes from the breathtaking Udawalawe National Park! Our hosts will welcome us with drinks and a delicious Sri Lankan buffet lunch. After dining, we’ll hop into jeeps for a safari, searching for herds of elephants, buffalo, crocodiles, monkeys, eagles, hawks, peacocks, mongoose, and, if lucky, leopards. This once-in-a-lifetime experience will be hard to top. After exploring the park, we’ll return to camp, where our hosts will have a BBQ dinner ready, the perfect way to end an amazing day.

Beach Vibes!

Udawalawe National Park - Spend the morning relaxing by the campsite pool and enjoying your surroundings – monkeys, elephants, and peacocks roam the fields around the campsite, so keep an eye out.

Mirissa - After breakfast, we’ll drive to the southwest coast, arriving at the stunning beachside town of Mirissa. Here, world-class waves meet the sand, turtles inhabit the waters, and the beer is ice-cold. After the hill country, this is exactly what you need.

Time to Say Goodbye!

Mirissa - Today, rise early and head to the beautiful golden sand beach. Board one of the best boats in the area to witness the largest animals in the world. Watch as blue whales jump, swim, and dive around you, and be amazed by their size. Relax and enjoy a delicious breakfast served on the cruise while blue whales, killer whales, sharks, and dolphins play nearby.

Galle - We’ll drive to Colombo, stopping en route at the stunning Galle Fort, a city encased in walls where Dutch, Portuguese, and British colonial buildings still stand proudly. The cobbled streets lead to the sea, where adventurous Sri Lankan locals dive into the ocean.

Bandaranaike International Airport - It’s time to bid farewell to the friends made over an incredible 12 days. For some, this means continuing the holiday on the phenomenal beaches of the Maldives with our add-on package, while for others, it’s either back home or onward to new adventures.
