As you wander through its ancient streets, you’ll find yourself transported back in time, surrounded by the echoes of past civilizations. The weather on May 10th is perfect for exploration, with clear skies and a gentle breeze accompanying your journey.
Begin your day with a Taormina Tour that starts at 8:30 AM. This tour offers a comprehensive exploration of Taormina’s historic center, where you’ll stroll along Corso Umberto I, a lively pedestrian street lined with charming shops and cafes. The Cathedral of Taormina, with its baroque facade, stands as a testament to the city’s rich architectural heritage. In the afternoon, embark on a boat trip to Isola Bella, known as the “Pearl of the Ionian Sea.” This small island is a protected nature reserve, boasting unique flora and fauna. As you sail along the coast, you’ll be treated to spectacular views of the Sicilian coastline, with the imposing silhouette of Mount Etna in the background. A recent review from June 2024 captures the essence of this experience:
Wonderful excursion! - My husband and I had a wonderful day on this excursion! We were picked up promptly by our guide in Catania, who took us directly to Giardini Naxos where we had an awesome boat ride to Isola Bella and all around the coastline. We were able to stop and take numerous pictures and one couple even went swimming! Our boat captain was friendly and explained the areas we were seeing. He took us to a lava cave and the blue grotto! He even served some Prosecco & an Italian pastry! It was all heavenly! After the boat trip, our guide took us to Taormina where we spent the rest of the afternoon. We saw the amphitheater, had lunch, and then she joined us for a walk all around showing us different areas with amazing views! She even took pictures of us on her phone that she sent to us later. It was an awesome day! Highly recommend!!
A Journey Through Time in Syracuse and Noto
On May 11th, the weather remains favorable for a day of exploration, with temperatures reaching a comfortable 67.6°F. This is the perfect day to embark on a Syracuse & Noto Tour from Taormina, starting at 7:20 AM. This tour takes you on a journey through some of Sicily’s most historically significant sites.
Your first stop is the Neapolis archaeological park in Syracuse, where you’ll explore the remnants of the ancient Greek city. The Greek theatre, Latomia del Paradiso, and the Ear of Dionysius are just a few of the highlights that await you. As you wander through these ancient ruins, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the rich history that has shaped this region.
After Syracuse, the tour continues to Ortigia, a small island that is home to some of the earliest Greek structures. Here, you’ll visit the Cathedral and the Fountain of Arethusa, both of which offer a glimpse into the island’s storied past. The day concludes with a visit to Noto, a city renowned for its baroque architecture. A review from July 2024 highlights the tour’s appeal:
Excellent guide & very interesting - This is the second time we have taken this trip. The first was last year & just me and my husband. We enjoyed it so much that we did it again although this time with our daughter. We had hoped that we would get the same guide again & we were really pleased that we did. The trip itself was well thought out and well-paced & the guide, Christy was fantastic once again. He’s such a fountain of knowledge and is clearly passionate about his work. He effortlessly switched between English, French & Italian languages and was keen to answer any questions any of the group had. It was really hot when we went so he minimized the time we spent outside in the sun & also split the group with the local guide Santo when in Syracuse which was helpful in the heat. If you enjoy Ancient Greek & Roman history and also enjoy finding out more about Sicily I would highly recommend.
