- The Caves of New Providence - Formed by the sea millions of years ago, Nassau’s caves were once at sea level, with ocean waves eroding the softer sedimentary rock to create large hollows. The Lucayans, the original inhabitants of The Bahamas, utilized these caves for food storage and hurricane protection. Today, they are home to fruit bats, and visitors might even catch a glimpse of one!
