Piggy Paradise: A Family Adventure in the Bahamas
When I heard about the Swimming Pigs Encounter in the Bahamas, I knew it was a must-try for my family. Join me as I share our delightful day filled with adorable piggies, unexpected surprises, and unforgettable memories on Rose Island.
Setting Sail to Rose Island
As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that promise both fun and bonding time for families. So, when I heard about the Swimming Pigs Encounter in the Bahamas, I knew it was a must-try for my family. We set off from Nassau-Downtown Harbor, and the journey itself was a treat. The ferry ride offered stunning views of the island paradise, with the famous Pearl Island and the majestic Atlantis Bahamas making appearances along the way. My kids were thrilled, pointing out every little detail they could spot from the deck.
Upon arrival at Rose Island, we were greeted by the most unexpected sight—a lively restaurant and bar right on the water! It was a pleasant surprise, and I could already tell this was going to be a day full of delightful discoveries. We quickly snagged some beach chairs, which were plentiful, and prepared ourselves for the main event: swimming with the pigs.
Splashing Around with Piggies
The highlight of our day was, without a doubt, the pig swim. The staff handed us cups of chopped carrots and long wooden skewers, and then the magic happened. The pigs, in all their adorable glory, came trotting down the rocks, eager for their treats. My kids were over the moon, giggling and splashing around as the pigs swam up to them. It was a heartwarming sight, and I couldn’t resist snapping a few pictures of the kids with a piglet that was brought out for photos.
What I loved most was the relaxed atmosphere. There was no pressure to buy professional photos, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. After our swim, we discovered a treasure trove of free activities available to us. From kayaking and paddleboarding to snorkeling and bouncing on a water trampoline, there was something for everyone. It was a perfect way to keep the kids entertained while my husband and I enjoyed a moment of relaxation.
A Feast and Farewell
After all the excitement, we headed to the bar for some refreshing drinks. The aroma of the buffet was irresistible, and we decided to indulge. For $25, we enjoyed a delicious spread of rice, chicken, fish, nachos, mac n cheese, fries, and salads. The portions were generous, so my husband and I shared a plate, which was more than enough for the two of us.
As the day wound down, we took a final dip in the ocean and even joined in some fun with the DJ. The boat ride back to Nassau was the perfect end to a perfect day. The crew was kind enough to drop us off at the Paradise Island port, saving us a cab ride and adding a cherry on top of our adventure.
The Swimming Pigs Encounter was everything I hoped it would be and more. It was a day filled with laughter, discovery, and unforgettable memories. If you’re planning a trip to the Bahamas, this is one experience you won’t want to miss!
