• Todai-ji Temple - Todai-ji, meaning “Eastern Great Temple,” is a historic Buddhist temple complex located in Nara, Japan. Originally established in 738 CE, it officially opened in 752 CE. The temple has been reconstructed multiple times, with the most notable being the Great Buddha Hall in 1709. It serves as the Japanese headquarters for the Kegon school of Buddhism and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, part of the “Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara,” which includes seven other significant sites.
• Nara Park - Nara Park, along with Naramachi and Nishinokyo, is a must-visit area in Nara City. Spanning 660 hectares, it is famous for its free-roaming deer and renowned temples. Visitors can enjoy feeding the deer with special crackers available throughout the park. For refreshments, traditional tea houses and kiosks offer snacks and souvenirs.
• Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine - Fushimi Inari Taisha is an Important Cultural Property, featuring a main shrine building that houses five shrines. These represent the virtues of Inari Okami, the deity of business prosperity, industrial success, household safety, traffic safety, and performing arts improvement. The ‘Senbon Torii’ or 1000 torii gates are donations from individuals and companies, with each gate inscribed with the donor’s name and donation date.
• Kinkakuji Temple - Known for its Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku), a pagoda housing sacred Buddha relics, Kinkaku-ji is popularly called the “Temple of the Golden Pavilion.” Officially, it is Rokuon-ji, a branch of the Rinzai-sect Zen temple of Shokoku-ji. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
• Arashiyama Kimono Forest - The Kimono Forest is an artistic installation at the Arashiyama terminal station of the Keifuku Randen Tram Line. It consists of 600 clear acrylic cylinders, each 2 meters tall, showcasing kimono fabric designs. There are 32 traditional Kyo-yuzen designs, a fabric dyeing style from Kyoto’s Edo Period.
