A Dreamy Ascent into the Skies

The morning air was crisp and filled with the promise of adventure as I found myself standing outside my hotel at the ungodly hour of 5 am. The Napa Valley Balloon van arrived punctually, and I was wide awake with anticipation. This was to be a year of embracing the skies, and the hot air balloon ride was a dream I was eager to fulfill. Despite the fog that blanketed Napa Valley, our spirits were undampened. We were informed that we would need to drive to an alternate site, a mere 50 minutes away, due to the weather conditions. The option to cancel was presented, but the allure of the skies was too strong to resist.

As we journeyed through the early morning, the excitement was palpable. Our first stop was the Domaine Chandon Winery, where a light continental breakfast awaited us. The setting was serene, and the briefing was straightforward. Our pilots, seasoned and knowledgeable, formed us into groups, and soon we were on our way to the launch site. The sight of the balloons, in various stages of inflation, was nothing short of magical. Cameras in hand, we climbed into our basket, ready to be whisked away.

Floating Above the Vineyards

The ascent was gentle, almost imperceptible, as we rose with the air currents. The sensation of floating was unlike anything I had experienced before. Below us, the landscape unfolded like a tapestry of farmland, mountains, and shimmering lakes. The beauty of the Napa Valley, even from an alternate location, was breathtaking. I found myself reaching for my iPhone, eager to capture the moment and share it with loved ones back home.

Our pilot, Gabe, was a master of his craft, guiding us effortlessly through the skies. His insights into the history of ballooning and the region added depth to the experience. As we drifted above the vineyards, I couldn’t help but reflect on the countless wine tastings and culinary adventures that had brought me to this point. The vineyards below, with their rows of vines stretching into the horizon, were a testament to the artistry and dedication that goes into every bottle of wine.

A Feast to Remember

Upon our return to the Domaine Chandon Winery, a sumptuous breakfast awaited us. The spread was a feast for the senses, with eggs, muffins, bacon, potatoes, fruit, and champagne laid out in abundance. The bacon, in particular, was a revelation, its flavor lingering on my palate long after the meal was over. As we indulged, Dan, the photographer, captured the joy and wonder of our experience, offering the photos at a very reasonable price.

The day was far from over, as we awaited the arrival of Platypus Tours for our all-day Wine Country tour. The morning’s adventure had set the tone for what promised to be a day of indulgence and discovery. As I sipped my champagne, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience the world from such a unique perspective. The hot air balloon ride was not just a journey through the skies, but a celebration of life, love, and the endless possibilities that await those who dare to dream.
