Equator Marker - Guests will be picked up from their hotel or the airport at 6:30 am to begin the journey to Samburu National Reserve in Northern Kenya. The drive takes approximately 2.5 hours, reaching Nanyuki town by 9:30 am. Here, there will be a stop at the equator crossing, an imaginary line that divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Visitors can take a photo with the large sign marking the equator crossing.
On clear days, there is a good chance of seeing Mount Kenya, the highest mountain in Kenya.
Samburu National Reserve - The journey continues for another 2 hours to reach the reserve’s gate, arriving in time for lunch and check-in.
In the afternoon, guests will enjoy a game viewing experience in the reserve.
Morning and Evening Game Drive in Samburu
Samburu National Reserve - An early morning game drive in the reserve is followed by breakfast back at the camp. The rest of the mid-morning is for relaxation. After lunch, guests will embark on another afternoon game drive in the reserve.
Samburu is renowned for its wild semi-arid landscape and a high concentration of wildlife and birdlife. Along with the neighboring Shaba and Buffalo Springs national reserves, Samburu is known for hosting rare Northern-Kenya animal species such as the Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Beisa Oryx, and Somali Ostrich, which are not found in other popular parks and reserves in Kenya. It is also home to all the African big cats (lion, cheetah, and leopard), as well as other large game including elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, hippos, impalas, waterbucks, and many more. Samburu is also a famous bird-watching destination, with hundreds of bird species residing here.
