Rhino Fund Uganda - Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the sole location in Uganda where visitors can track rhinos in their natural habitat. Situated in Nakasongola District, approximately 176 km from Kampala, it provides guided rhino tracking experiences, allowing guests to observe Southern White Rhinos freely roaming over 7,000 hectares. This sanctuary is part of a conservation initiative to reintroduce rhinos to Uganda, with a steadily growing population since its inception in 2005.
In the morning, the guide will arrive at the hotel for pickup and transfer to Ziwa for the tracking activity. Later, the journey to Murchison Falls National Park takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Murchison Falls - The “Top of the Falls” at Murchison Falls National Park is a stunning location where the Nile River forces its way through a narrow gorge, creating a thunderous sound and a magnificent spray. Visitors can reach this iconic spot by hiking from the base of the falls or driving to the viewpoint. The hike takes around 45 minutes and offers breathtaking views, wildlife encounters, and a refreshing mist from the falls. Upon arrival at the park, the drive continues through Budongo Forest, where forest baboons greet visitors on the way to the falls for the awe-inspiring activity, before proceeding to the savannah area of the park. The drive from Ziwa to the Falls in Murchison National Park takes about 3 hours.
Murchison Falls National Park - An evening game drive in Murchison Falls National Park is a wonderful way to explore the park’s savannah plains and observe wildlife as the sun sets. The northern banks of the park are especially favored for game drives due to the high concentration of wildlife, including elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, and antelopes.
Visitors will follow game tracks such as the Albert, Buligi, or Victoria tracks, which offer diverse ecosystems and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. The cooler evening temperatures provide a comfortable and peaceful experience, and the golden light of the setting sun adds a magical touch to the landscape. This is a short game drive as the journey continues to the lodge for check-in, dinner, and an overnight stay.
Game Drive, Boat Trip, and Transfer to Kampala
Murchison Falls National Park - After an early morning breakfast at 5:30 am, the adventure begins with a game drive. An early morning game drive in Murchison Falls National Park is an exhilarating experience! Starting at around 6:30 AM, these drives take advantage of the cool, tranquil hours when wildlife is most active. Visitors can spot predators like lions and leopards returning from their hunts, as well as herds of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and various antelopes grazing in the golden morning light.
As the time approaches 11 am, the drive proceeds to the boat site.
Murchison Falls National Park - Upon arrival at the boat site after the game drive, the journey continues with a boat trip. A boat trip at Murchison Falls National Park is an unforgettable experience! The park offers two main types of boat cruises:
The boat trip takes visitors upstream to the base of the mighty Murchison Falls, where the Nile squeezes through a narrow gorge. Along the way, guests will see hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and a variety of bird species. The trip lasts about 2 hours and offers stunning views of the falls and wildlife. Additionally, this cruise heads downstream to the Nile-Lake Albert Delta, a paradise for birdwatchers. It’s one of the best places to spot the rare shoebill stork, along with other waterbirds and wildlife.
After the boat trip, the transfer to Kampala marks the end of the trip. The drive to Kampala or Entebbe will take approximately 6 hours, depending on traffic.
