Nairobi to Samburu

Samburu National Reserve - Guests will be picked up from their hotel or the airport and will set off for Samburu National Reserve in Northern Kenya, arriving in time for lunch.

After enjoying lunch, guests will embark on an afternoon game drive in the reserve.

Samburu is renowned for its truly wild semi-arid landscape and the high concentration of wildlife and bird species. Along with the neighboring Shaba and Buffalo Springs national reserves, Samburu is famous for hosting the rare Northern-Kenya animal species such as the Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Beisa Oryx, and Somali Ostrich, which are not found in other popular parks and reserves in Kenya. It is also home to all the African big cats (lion, cheetah, and leopard), as well as other large game including elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, hippos, and more. Samburu is also a well-known bird-watching destination. The unique culture of the Samburu tribe, who inhabit the region, adds to the allure of the amazing Samburu National Reserve. Later, guests will return to their hotel or camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Samburu National Reserve

Samburu National Reserve - Today, guests will rise early for a morning safari game drive to observe more of Samburu’s wildlife. Early morning and late afternoon are considered the best times to see animals at their most active.

Guests will return to the lodge for a leisurely breakfast, with the rest of the morning free for relaxation. Later, they may choose to take a nature walk. After a delicious lunch, guests will embark on a late afternoon safari game drive to search for animals, many of which are active during the late evening hours. Later, they will return to the camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Samburu to Nairobi

Samburu National Reserve - Guests will enjoy an early morning breakfast as they check out of their camps, followed by a drive back to Nairobi with a short game drive en route. They will then proceed to Nairobi, with an optional lunch stop along the way (at their own expense).

Samburu Game Reserve is situated in the hot and arid fringes of Kenya’s vast Northern Frontier District. The area is home to the Samburu tribe, pastoral relatives of the Masai. Samburu Reserve as a safari destination has rugged and dramatic landscape; the Owasso Nyiro River runs along the southern boundary dividing Samburu Game Reserve and is home to crocodile and hippo with the many animals visiting to drink during the heat of the day. Samburu safari may offer sighting of buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and other plains game. Species 5 of game unique to Samburu game reserve include the Beisa oryx, the long necked Gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and the blue shanked Somali ostrich.
