Ngare Ndare: A Photographer’s Paradise and Nature Lover’s Dream

Drawn by the promise of a tranquil escape into nature, I embarked on the Ngare Ndare Day Trip from Nairobi. With hiking, swimming, and a thrilling canopy walk, it was an adventure that deepened my love for Africa’s natural beauty.

A Journey Through Time and Nature

As a wildlife photographer with a deep-seated love for Africa, I am always on the lookout for experiences that allow me to connect with the continent’s natural beauty and rich biodiversity. The Ngare Ndare Day Trip promised just that—a tranquil escape into nature with hiking, swimming, and a canopy walk. The allure of exploring a lush indigenous forest at the foothills of Mt. Kenya was irresistible.

The journey began with a road trip from Nairobi, passing through the equator—a geographical marvel that never ceases to amaze me. The drive, though long, was a visual feast, with the landscape gradually transforming from urban sprawl to the verdant embrace of the forest. Our guide, Charity, and the driver were delightful companions, sharing stories and insights that enriched the experience.

Upon arrival, the forest welcomed us with open arms. The air was crisp, and the sounds of nature enveloped us in a serene symphony. The Ngare Ndare Forest is not just a place of beauty; it is a vital migration corridor for elephants, a fact that resonated deeply with my passion for conservation. Walking through this ancient forest, with its towering African olive and Red Cedar trees, felt like stepping back in time.

The Thrill of the Canopy Walk

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the canopy walk—a 40-foot high aerial bridge that meanders through the treetops. As someone who thrives on adventure, the thrill of walking amidst the canopy was exhilarating. The bridge, made of wire mesh and cables, stretched 450 meters long, offering breathtaking views of the forest below.

The canopy walk was more thrilling than I had anticipated. The gentle sway of the bridge underfoot added an element of excitement, and the perspective it offered was unparalleled. From this vantage point, I could see the forest in all its glory, a sea of green stretching as far as the eye could see. It was a reminder of the importance of preserving such pristine environments, not just for the wildlife that calls it home, but for future generations to experience and cherish.

A Refreshing Dip in the Blue Pools

After the canopy walk, we embarked on a short hike to the natural blue pools. These pools, nestled within the forest, are a hidden gem—a paradise for those seeking a refreshing dip. The water, a stunning shade of blue, was as inviting as it was beautiful.

Swimming in the pools was a rejuvenating experience. The cool water provided a welcome respite from the heat, and the surrounding forest created a tranquil oasis. As more people joined in, the water became slightly cloudy, but it retained its charm and allure.

The day concluded with a return journey to Nairobi, a long drive that allowed for reflection on the day’s adventures. The Ngare Ndare Day Trip was more than just a day in nature; it was a reminder of the beauty and fragility of our natural world. It reinforced my commitment to sustainable travel and conservation, ensuring that such experiences remain available for generations to come.

For those with a love for nature and adventure, the Ngare Ndare Day Trip is a must. It offers a unique glimpse into Kenya’s natural heritage, a chance to walk among giants, and a moment to pause and appreciate the wonders of our world. Ngare Ndare Adventure
