• Kitty Hawk - Kitty Hawk is closely associated with the Wright brothers and the beginnings of aviation. The town itself has no entrance fee.
• Wright Brother’s Garage Monument - This small roadside monument marks a location associated with the Wright brothers’ early glider work. It can be viewed without an admission charge.
• Avalon Pier - This historic fishing pier extends into the Atlantic Ocean at Kill Devil Hills. Accessing or fishing from the pier requires a paid pass, while the surrounding business area may be entered freely.
• Kill Devil Hills - This coastal town is home to the Wright Brothers National Memorial and several beaches. There is no fee to enter the town.
• Wright Brothers National Memorial - The memorial preserves the site of the first successful powered airplane flights. Visitors aged 16 and older currently require a $10 entrance pass. NPS fees apply.
• Nags Head - Nags Head is known for beaches, historic cottages, fishing piers, and large sand dunes. There is no fee to enter the town.

• Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge - The refuge protects beaches, marshes, ponds, and migratory-bird habitat. Its visitor center, trails, and wildlife-viewing areas have no general entrance fee.
• Pea Island Beach - This undeveloped beach offers ocean views, wildlife observation, and surf fishing. There is no ordinary entrance fee, but temporary wildlife closures may affect access.
• Jug Handle Bridge - This bridge carries NC Highway 12 over Pamlico Sound around an erosion-prone shoreline. It has no toll or admission charge.

• Buxton - Buxton is a Hatteras Island village near Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Cape Point. There is no fee to enter the community.
• WWII British Sailor Cemetery - This small World War II cemetery honors British sailors who died near the Outer Banks. Visitors may enter without paying admission.

• Hatteras Ferry Terminal - There is no fee to enter the terminal, and the regular Hatteras–Ocracoke vehicle ferry is free. The optional seasonal Ocracoke Express passenger ferry charges separately.
