The lighthouse was constructed by David Stevenson, father of Robert Louis Stevenson, the author of Treasure Island. This location is ideal for spotting basking sharks and porpoises and features a nearby small beach. It also holds a Guinness World Record for the highest gust recorded in the British Isles at 133.6 miles per hour in 1962.

- Lews Castle - Restored in 2015 to its original grandeur, Lews Castle was constructed between 1840 and 1860 by Lord and Lady Matheson as a lavish residence. Later sold to Lord Leverhulme of Unilever, the Castle, grounds, Stornoway, and surrounding areas were bequeathed to the people of Stornoway in 1924, leading to the establishment of Scotland’s first land-owning trust. The redevelopment included a museum that showcases the rich history of the islands and some of the Lewis Chessmen, discovered in a sand dune in Uig in 1831. Carved from walrus ivory, they are believed to have been brought to Lewis by the Vikings in the 12th Century AD.
