• Clach an Trushal - Referred to as the Stone of Compassion, this is considered the tallest standing stone in Scotland. It rises 5.8 meters above ground, is 1.83 meters wide, and at its thickest point, measures 1.5 meters.
• Butt of Lewis Lighthouse - A visit to the most north-westerly point in the British Isles. The lighthouse was constructed by David Stevenson, father of Robert Louis Stevenson, the author of Treasure Island. This location is ideal for spotting basking sharks and porpoises and features a nearby small beach. It also holds a Guinness World Record for the highest gust recorded in the British Isles at 133.6 miles per hour in 1962.
• Gearrannan Blackhouse Village Ltd - Explore the restored Blackhouse Village, which includes a museum showcasing life in the 1800s on Lewis. Watch a video about community life and culture, and enjoy observing a Harris Tweed Weaver at work along with a real peat stack.
• Callanish Standing Stones - Visit the stone circle that dates back to the time of the Pyramids and is older than Stonehenge. Try to decipher the purpose of the stones. Explore the exhibition and enjoy tea and cake at the visitor center.
• Lews Castle - Restored in 2015 to its original grandeur, Lews Castle was constructed between 1840 and 1860 by Lord and Lady Matheson as a lavish residence. Later sold to Lord Leverhulme of Unilever, the Castle, grounds, Stornoway, and surrounding areas were bequeathed to the people of Stornoway in 1924, leading to the establishment of Scotland’s first land-owning trust. The redevelopment included a museum that showcases the rich history of the islands and some of the Lewis Chessmen, discovered in a sand dune in Uig in 1831. Carved from walrus ivory, they are believed to have been brought to Lewis by the Vikings in the 12th Century AD.
