- Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque - Situated on a site covering 416,000 m² (4,480,000 sq. ft.), the Grand Mosque complex spans an area of 40,000 m² (430,000 sq. ft.). This magnificent mosque was inaugurated by the Sultan of Oman on May 4, 2001.
The mosque features five minarets, with the main minaret standing at 90 meters (300 ft.) tall. The prayer hall is a square, measuring 74.4 by 74.4 meters (244 by 244 feet), and boasts a central dome that rises 50 meters (160 ft.) above the floor. The dome is beautifully adorned inside and is a significant tourist attraction. The main Musalla (Prayer Room) can accommodate over 6,500 worshippers.
A highlight of the interior design is the prayer carpet, which covers the floor of the prayer hall. It contains 1,700,000,000 knots, weighs 21 tons, and took four years to create. The carpet combines classical Persian Tabriz, Kashan, and Isfahan design traditions, utilizing 28 colors in various shades.
- Wahiba Sands - From the Grand Mosque, the journey continues to the desert known as Wahiba Sands, also referred to as Al Sharqiya Sands. This stunning desert spans 12,500 square kilometers and was formerly known as “The Wahiba Sands.” It is named after the Bani Wahiba tribe and is divided between the northern and southern Governorates in the Eastern Region. The area is defined by a boundary of 180 km (110 mi) north to south and 80 km (50 mi) east to west. Visitors can enjoy the golden dunes and experience dune bashing with an experienced guide.
