A very unique experience - We recently had the pleasure of visiting Oman. On day one we planned to visit Jebel Akhdar, Nizwa Fort & Souq on a private 4X4 car. Our guide Said Al Aamri was at our hotel at sharp 9:00 AM. Our journey began under the blazing sun of a hot, cloudless day.
The rugged beauty of the country unfolded before us as soon as we touch the highway leading to Nizwa. The roads were well carved through the mountain terrains. Our guide informed us that being Friday, Nizwa fort & Souq will be closed during day time so we made slight changes in our itinerary and first decided to go to Jebel Akhdar. The roads to Jebel Akhdar were surrounded by deserted mountains and we could feel the heat. The view & the experience of driving through these roads is something to feel and cannot be described in words.
The heat added intensity to the experience, making every moment feel raw and elemental. On our way to Jebel Akhdar, we stopped at few places to look at old city view and the view was awesome.
Finally after a drive of around 2-3 hours we were at the awe-inspiring Jebel Akhdar, a mountain range that rises like a fortress above the plains. The views were spectacular. Terraced farms on to the cliffs, deep ravines carved by time, mountains carved well by the almighty nature and the valley. Everything was there to witness a great landscape. Despite the heat, the altitude brought a refreshing breeze that made the climb worthwhile. the average temperature dropped from 38 degrees celsius to 27 degrees.
We then paused at a quiet park nestled among the hills, a favorite spot for local campers. We saw lot of people around camping & enjoying picnic with friends & families. We were told that during weekend this is one of the spot where lot of people spend time and do camping in these mountain ranges.
The contrast between the sun-drenched mountains and the shaded serenity of the park was striking. The temperatures here were surprisingly soothing, offering a welcome break and a chance to relax in nature’s embrace.
Next, we headed to Nizwa, where history came alive at the formidable Nizwa Fort. Its tower and windy passages told stories of Oman’s rich past. We witnessed how they used to protect the fort and king by having very unique methods of stopping enemy. Th city view from the top was nothing short of majestic. Just beyond the fort, we wandered through the small city roads of Nizwa which lead us to Nizwa Souq, a marketplace alive with colorful pots, scent, and handcrafts. From fragrant spices, pots, dates to handcrafted silver, every stall offered a glimpse into Omani tradition.
Throughout the day, our guide Said Al Aamri was an exceptional companion—warm, insigntful and very humble. He made sure to keep us engage with his knowledge about the history & rich culture Oman carries.
As the sun began to set, we started heading back to our hotel. We had an awesome view of su saying goodbye for the day from the mountains. The day was a perfect blend of natural wonder, cultural richness, and heartfelt connection—a journey we’ll cherish for years to come.

Camel rides, coffee ceremony & heritage – unforgettable day! - We had a wonderful and varied day in Oman, full of warm hospitality and authentic experiences. At a Bedouin home we not only enjoyed a camel ride, but also learned about the traditional Omani coffee ceremony and received beautiful henna tattoos – a memory to treasure!
Later, we explored the historic village of Birkat Al Mouz at the foot of Jebel Akhdar – truly a travel through time. In the afternoon, we discovered the fascinating UNESCO-listed Al Kattmyn irrigation system while admiring the stunning valley views.
Everything was perfectly organized, and the friendliness of everyone we met made the day truly special. This experience gives a wonderful insight into Omani culture and history. Highly recommended!

Eye opening - Our guide Mr Hamoud Al Kulaiby from Landscape Tours Oman was very knowledgeable, patient and very kind in his interaction with us. He drove safely, took initiative to take photos of us throughout our trip and was humorous as well. He was also very resourceful as he understood how hot the weather was, and had water bottles prepared for us in his car. Any tourist would be extremely luckily to have Mr Hamoud as a tour guide

Amazing Nizwas - We visited Nizwa, the former capital of Oman, and it was an exciting and enriching experience. Along the way, we learned fascinating bits of history, thanks to our tour guide Ahmed, who was incredibly patient, knowledgeable and attentive throughout the day.
Nizwa itself was a charming town. We explored the vibrant souqs, toured the impressive fort and enjoyed some refreshments at a local coffee shop. The atmosphere was both lively and welcoming.
The journey was comfortable, with the air conditioning keeping us cool despite the sweltering 40°C May heat. The mountain views at the top were breathtaking and we appreciated the chance to relax and enjoy a meal at a restaurant nearby.
At our request, we made a quick stop to see the rose gardens. Ahmed was more than happy to accommodate us - nothing was too much trouble for him and we never felt rushed.
Our final stop were the ruins of Harat As Sibani, which turned out to be my personal favourite. It was a powerful moment to reflect on the past and imagine what life was like there long ago.
We departed at 8:30am and returned around 7:30pm - a full day of unforgettable sights, experiences and memories well worth the time.

Beautiful trip out in Nizwa - The abandoned village was a highlight of the trip, with great places to take pictures of and the view from the top of Jabal Akhdar was breathtaking. The rose distillery was a hidden gem, with beautiful flowers around the garden.
