- Nizwa Souk - Located just an hour and a half from Muscat, the tour begins with a visit to Nizwa Souk, a traditional bazaar offering a variety of unique Omani goods and essentials. Within the bustling alleys of Nizwa market, visitors can observe locals engaging in their daily shopping routines. The market is organized into several sections, including herbs and spices, fruits and vegetables, and handicrafts. On Fridays, the lively Goat Market takes place, featuring an auction-style sale of animals.
- Nizwa Fort Oman - A short walk from the Souk leads to the impressive Nizwa Fort, one of the largest round forts in the Middle East, dating back to the 17th century and surrounded by an older castle from the 10th century. Visitors can explore Oman’s history and understand why this fort is a significant national monument, featuring 480 gun-ports and various traps designed to deter invaders from entering the main round tower.
- Birkat Al Mouz Ruins - Next, the tour proceeds to Birkat Al Mouz village, nestled at the base of Jabel Akhdar (Green Mountain), renowned for its banana farms and ancient water channels. These channels, known as Falaj, date back to 4000 BC and are still in use today. UNESCO has recognized five of these channels as a testament to human ingenuity, including Falaj Al Khatmeen in Birkat Al Mouz. Visitors can explore this historic water system while admiring the lush greenery amidst the arid mountains.
- Jabal Akhdar - Close to Birkat Al Mouz is Jabal Akhdar, the “Green Mountain” of Oman. Despite its name, the mountain is relatively dry but remains the most vegetated in Oman. It is famous for its fruit and rose plantations, with terraced farming along its slopes, earning it the name Akhdar (Green). Access to the mountain is restricted to 4WD vehicles due to the steep ascent, making it a unique experience for those who visit. The tour includes exploring the farm terraces and discovering the area, particularly around Wadi Bani Habib village.
