- Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque - The Muscat City Tour begins at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, an exquisite architectural marvel featuring a vast prayer hall, detailed mosaics, and the world’s second-largest handwoven carpet. Open to non-Muslims during morning hours, it provides a serene environment for visitors to explore Oman’s Islamic heritage. Visitors can enter the mosque in the morning, except on Fridays. A dress code is required (full-length trousers, shirts covering the arms, and a headscarf for women).
- Mutrah Souq - After the Mosque, head to the historic part of Muscat city: the Mutrah Souq - a traditional Omani marketplace. The Souq offers a variety of goods, especially typical Omani souvenirs like Frankincense, the Omani Dagger or Khanjar, beautiful silver handicrafts, and “Pashmina shawls.”
- Mutrah Corniche - This is the largest corniche in Oman and a very popular tourist site. Along with Mutrah Souq, it is a picturesque waterfront in Muscat, offering breathtaking views of the harbor and the surrounding mountains. Enjoy a walk and admire the natural beauty of the area.
- Riyam Censer - The Riyam Censer is a large, impressive monument designed to resemble a traditional Omani incense burner. (View while passing)
- The National Museum - The National Museum is a state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2016. It is a comprehensive museum showcasing the history, culture, and tangible and intangible Omani heritage. The museum is expertly curated with a collection of genuine Omani antiquities as well as custom-made models of castles and significant landmarks.
- Al Alam Palace - Located in the heart of Old Muscat, Al Alam Palace (translated as Flag Palace) is the most significant of all royal residences of the Sultan. Built in 1972, the palace is a vibrant example of contemporary Islamic design. While the palace is not open to the public, visitors can enjoy a good view of the facade from the iron gates at the front.
- Mirani Fort - Mirani Fort, constructed by the Portuguese, stands directly behind Al Alam Palace. Entrance is allowed with a ticket.
- Al Jalali Fort - Jalali Fort, also built by the Portuguese, is situated on the opposite side of the harbor. It is not open to the public, but it can be viewed from outside as a photo opportunity.
- Shati Al Qurum - Qurum Beach Corniche in Muscat is a favored coastal destination featuring a long, sandy beach and a scenic promenade. It’s perfect for leisurely walks, picnics, and enjoying the tranquil views of the Arabian Sea.

Best Tour Guide - Khalifa (+968 9923 2645) was one of the best tour guides we have ever had. Not just in Oman but elsewhere. Punctual. knowledgeable, experienced, informative, excellent English, extremely hospitable and a very safe and considerate driver- everything a guide should be.
We have been to Muscat many times, but this time we decided to have a guided tour and it was well worth every Rial, for the insights and service we received.
We went to the Sultan Kaboos Mosque, the fish Market. Mutrah Souk in the old city, the Royal Palace, the Parliament, the Opera House, a traditional Omani sweet store, lookout in the mountains and the beach. And then the piece de résistance, he hosted us for a sensational Omani lunch at his place.

Total rip off - Knowing we would be in Muscat on a Friday, I was reluctant to book a tour as in Muslim countries usually everything is closed. So I went on the live chat to inquire and was reassured that the tour would proceed and everything would be as normal.
Of course, when the guide collected us and started driving us around, the only thing open was the Souk for shopping ( which we were not interested in doing ). He drove us around for about 2 hours pointing out a few landmarks and museums, all of which were closed, and we were back at the hotel after approximately 2 hours. We paid over $400 for this tour. A complete rip off. I have written to the tour operator for a refund. I doubt this will be forthcoming.
