Muscat – Nizwa – Jabal Akhdar – Birkat Al Mouz
Jabal Akhdar - Nizwa city is renowned for its history, culture, and heritage, rich in customs, traditions, crafts, and traditional industries that have been a livelihood for generations. Explore the Nizwa Souq, a beautifully designed complex using Omani fort architecture and elegant Islamic arches. The air-conditioned halls are filled with fresh produce, herbs, spices, dates, and freshly caught fish. It’s the best place to purchase traditional silver “Khanjars” (hand-carved Omani daggers) and Bedouin jewelry, where silver is still sold by weight. Visit Nizwa Fort, a 17th-century round tower fort, Oman’s most impressive tower, built on a solid rock base to withstand the vibrations of 24 cannons. From the top, enjoy a panoramic view of Nizwa and the surrounding plains, a delight for photographers! Drive to the village of Barkat ul Mauz and enjoy a walk through lush green date plantations. Continue through Wadi Al Madeen, leading to Jebel Akhdar (2000 meters above sea level), the green jewel of the Al Hajjar mountain ranges, a unique spot in the Arabian Peninsula. Enjoy the cool mountain climate. Al Jebel Al Akhdar is famous for its fruit orchards, laid out terrace-style along the mountain slopes, with natural springs and aflaj. The villages of Saiq, Wadi Bani Habib (the village of old houses), and Al Ain dot the landscape, overlooking dramatic peaks, gorges, and wadis. The roses of Jabal Al Akhdar fill the air with fragrance when in bloom (March/April), and rose water is distilled in the villagers’ homes. After the tour, return to Nizwa.
Jabreen – Bahla – Al Hamra – Misfah
Misfat al Abreyeen - After breakfast, drive to Jabrin and visit Jabrin Castle. A visit to Jabrin Castle allows visitors to experience medieval Oman. Islamic inscriptions combine with secret hiding places for soldiers in the dining room. Drive to Bahla and visit Bahla Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit Bahla Pottery Factory and witness the art of pottery. A visit to Abdullah ibn Hamdan Al Adawi and his sons is recommended, as they practice their craft in a workshop in a palm garden. Sinaw – Ibra – Sharqiya Sands
Wahiba Sands - At 0730 Hrs, drive to Sinaw, a peaceful town in the A’Sharqiyah region known for its bustling souq. In the open yard of the souq is the livestock market, where camels, goats, and calves are auctioned and bartered. Bedu women in traditional dress, complete with their indigo-dyed or black facemasks (burqa’a), trade alongside men. The souq serves as an important meeting place for the Bedu to gather and socialize. Ibra, the second-largest city in the Ash Sharqiyah Region of Oman, is located about 170 km (2 hours) from Muscat, with an estimated population of 55,000 people. Ibra is one of the oldest cities in Oman, once a center of trade, religion, education, and art. It gained importance as a meeting point at the base of the Ash Sharqiya. Ibra is home to the large Al-Harthy tribe, one of the biggest and most powerful tribes in Oman. The Al-Maskary and Al-Riyamy tribes are also prevalent in Ibra. Later, enjoy a Desert Safari over golden sand dunes and visit a Bedouin family. Those who choose to live in Wahiba Sands must be hardy and resilient to tolerate its potentially harsh climate, and the Bedu are just that. Over 3000 Bedu of varying tribal origins live here among the woodland on the sands’ fringes.
Wadi Bani Khalid – Sur – Bimah Sinkhole - Muscat
Wadi Bani Khalid - Enjoy breakfast in camp, check out, and depart to Sur. First, visit Wadi Bani Khalid, considered one of the most beautiful wadis in Oman. Grand Mosque – Amouage Factory - Mabilla
Amouage Perfumery - Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. At 0900 Hrs, assemble in the hotel lobby and depart for a half-day city tour of Muscat. Start with the Grand Mosque, the most exquisite mosque in Oman. The developed part of the site, including fully consolidated areas and landscaping, covers 416,000 square meters. The Mosque complex (covering 40,000 square meters) is constructed on a raised podium, in keeping with the tradition of Omani mosques built elevated from street level. It can accommodate up to 20,000 worshippers and consists of a main prayer hall, women’s prayer hall, covered passageways, a meeting hall, and a library, which will eventually contain up to 20,000 books. A major feature of the main prayer hall is the hand-made Persian carpet, consisting of 1,700 million knots, weighing 21 tons, and made in a single piece measuring 70 x 60 meters. From the design stage, it took 4 years to complete, with 600 female weavers from the province of Khurasan in Iran involved. Note: Ladies visiting the mosque are required to cover their heads with a scarf and not wear shorts, beachwear, or sleeveless outfits, as they must be fully covered. Men are required to wear long trousers. No shorts are allowed. After the mosque, drive to Mabila for a hosted lunch with an Omani family. Experience a traditional Omani lunch and spend quality time with the Omani host family, learning more about the culture and traditions of Oman. Late afternoon transfer back to the hotel.
