Muscat - Muscat tour: visiting Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

Start early at 8:30 am, then proceed to Mutrah Souq, the largest souq in the country. Enjoy lunch there, then visit the National Museum.

Izki - Birkat Al Mawz - Wadi Muadin

Izki - Begin the journey to the Hajar Mountains, which majestically crown the top of Oman on the map. In Izki, take a walk through the ancient mud-brick settlements and continue to Birkat Al Mawz, exploring Harat As Sibani. Enjoy lunch there and proceed to Wadi Muadin for our first camp.

Nizwa - Hasat Bin Salt

Nizwa - The plan is to keep the camp intact and leave one crew member at the campsite, allowing an early visit to Nizwa’s Friday market. This is a unique opportunity to observe Omani people in the market. Visit the castle, then return to camp for lunch. Afterward, break camp and drive to Hasat Bin Salt, known for its impressive prehistoric rock carvings.

Jabal Shams - Wadi Nakhr

Jebel Shams - Travel to Jabal Shams, the highest point in Arabia, and begin the balcony walk. This easy trek offers a stunning view from a ledge overlooking the incredible canyon (trekking poles are recommended). Camp in Wadi Nakhr.

Bahla Fort - Fahud - THE EMPTY QUARTER

Um Al Samim - THE EMPTY QUARTER

Oman - The plan is to traverse the Um Al Samim area, which Thesiger was eager to explore due to its formidable reputation among the Bedouins.

The drainage water from the Hajar Mountains used to collect here, creating salt swamps known as quicksands. Now, a dam in the mountains prevents this. However, if the area is wet due to rain, we may need to wait or alter our route.

Upon crossing Umm Al Samim, we will enter an area of magnificent, large dunes where we will camp.

Overnight Camp 5

Ramlet El Sahma - THE EMPTY QUARTER

Oman - Continue towards Qurun El Fedah, where the star dunes area is located, and proceed to Ramlet Abu Tabul. Then, continue south towards Ramlet Al Sahmah, exploring the spectacular dune formations and camping in one of the world’s most beautiful deserts.

Ramlet Muqshin - THE EMPTY QUARTER

Jiddat al Harasis

Oman - Drive to the highway towards Al Ghaftayn to refuel and replenish supplies, then head to Hayma, camping at Jiddat al Harasis desert, a short distance outside the wildlife reserve.

Al Wusta Wildlife Reserve - Haqf Depression

Wahiba Sands

Wahiba Sands - Head towards Wahiba Sands to begin our dune-crossing adventure while exploring the beautiful dunes. Entering from the western edge along an old local track will allow us to see various parts of the sands.

Wahiba Sands

Wahiba Sands - Cross the vast, enormous linear dunes extending up to 50 km in length towards Umm Adalian. Continue through the central part of the Sands, then proceed north on the rarely visited track, away from the crowded permanent campsites. Camp a short distance from the main road.

Wadi Bani Khaled - Muscat

Wadi Bani Khalid - Visit Wadi Bani Khaled, enjoy swimming in the lovely pools, and have lunch there. Then, return to Muscat and check into the hotel.

Our pioneer route is based on our experience in travelling off road for long distances and our ability to prepare a unique camping experience for our travelers. The planned route starts from Muscat where we can admire the Omani culture and history, then camping in the beautiful Hajar Mountains. Followed by a real adventure crossing the empty quarter northern part following Wilfred Thesiger foot steps and crossing Wahiba sands too makes this tour excellent for desert and dunes lovers.
