A Grand Start at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

As a former city planner, I have always been fascinated by the architectural marvels that define a city’s skyline. Muscat, with its blend of traditional and modern structures, was no exception. A short drive brought me to the Mutrah Fish Market, a lively hub of activity where local fishermen and tourists converge. The market is a sensory delight, with the aroma of fresh seafood mingling with the vibrant colors of fruits and vegetables. It’s a place where tradition meets modernity, and I found myself lost in its charm.

No visit to Muscat would be complete without a stroll through the Mutrah Souq. This ancient market, with its narrow alleys and shaded stalls, is a treasure trove of souvenirs, antiques, and Omani crafts. I spent hours wandering through its labyrinthine paths, haggling with vendors and discovering hidden gems at every turn.

A Royal Finish at Al Alam Palace

The final leg of my tour took me to the majestic Al Alam Palace, the official residence of the Sultan of Oman. Flanked by the historic Mirani and Jalali forts, the palace is a stunning example of Islamic architecture. While visitors are not allowed inside, the view from the gates is breathtaking, and I couldn’t resist capturing the moment with my camera.

Nearby, the Bait Al Zubair Museum offered a glimpse into Oman’s rich history and culture. The museum’s exhibits, ranging from traditional dresses to ancient weapons, provided a fascinating insight into the country’s heritage.
