Discovering Sal Island: A Family Adventure

Our family of five, including my husband and our three kids, recently embarked on a journey to the captivating island of Sal in Cape Verde. As a former pediatric nurse turned travel writer, I always seek out experiences that are both enriching and stress-free for families. As we continued our journey, we visited Espargos, the bustling capital of Sal. Here, we wandered through local markets, sampling delicious Cape Verdean treats and soaking in the lively atmosphere. The kids loved the vibrant colors and sounds, and it was a great way to introduce them to the local culture. We even had a chance to visit some local schools and kindergartens, which was a heartwarming experience for me, given my background in pediatric care.

Unwinding at the Salt Lakes and Shark Bay

One of the highlights of our tour was visiting the therapeutic Salt Lakes of Pedra de Lume. Floating effortlessly in the mineral-rich waters was a unique experience that left us all feeling rejuvenated. The kids had a blast, and it was a perfect way to unwind after a day of exploration.

Our final stop was Shark Bay, where we had the chance to observe baby lemon sharks up close. The kids were thrilled, and it was a fantastic opportunity to learn about marine life in a safe and controlled environment. Kalu ensured we had the appropriate footwear and guided us through the experience with care and expertise.

As we concluded our tour at the vibrant Santa Maria, with its beautiful beach and lively atmosphere, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible day we had.
