This self-guided audio tour traces Adolf Hitler’s path from an unknown political agitator to a totalitarian leader who significantly altered history.
The tour begins at the Isartor Gate, a historical marker of Munich’s Eastern boundary since the Middle Ages. Participants will visit the modest beer hall where Hitler joined a small workers’ party that eventually became the Nazi movement, walk through the square known for book burnings, and explore sites where both resistance fighters and regime supporters influenced Germany’s darkest era.
Although the subject matter is inherently challenging, the tour addresses historical sites with sensitivity and an educational focus, offering essential context for understanding how a democratic society can gradually fall into authoritarianism. Before concluding near Karlsplatz, the tour includes a stop at the Main Synagogue Memorial, located at the site of one of the first synagogues Hitler ordered demolished in June 1938.
