- Mtskheta Church of the Holy Cross - Embark on a journey to Mtskheta, the former capital of Georgia. Discover the Svetitskhoveli Orthodox Cathedral, a magnificent 11th-century structure located in the historic town of Mtskheta. Enjoy a stroll through the old city. Mtskheta is an ancient town of great significance to the Georgian nation, situated approximately 20km from Tbilisi. It served as the capital of the eastern Georgian kingdom of Iberia from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD.
- Jvari Church - Visit the Jvari Monastery, constructed in the 6th century. Capture stunning photographs of the picturesque view of Mtskheta. The monastery’s name translates to the “Monastery of the Cross.” Jvari Monastery is perched on a rocky mountaintop at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, overlooking Mtskheta, the former capital of the Kingdom of Iberia. According to tradition, in the early 4th century, Saint Nino, a female evangelist who converted King Mirian III of Iberia to Christianity, erected a large wooden cross on the site of a pagan temple. This cross was believed to perform miracles, attracting pilgrims from across the Caucasus. Jvari was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994, along with other monuments of Mtskheta.
- Stalin Museum - The Joseph Stalin Museum in Gori, Georgia, is dedicated to the life of Joseph Stalin, the Soviet Union leader born in Gori. The museum retains its Soviet-era charm. Within a Greco-Italianate pavilion lies a small wooden hut where Stalin was born in 1878 and spent his early years. The hut, with two rooms on the ground floor, was rented by Stalin’s father, Vissarion Jughashvili, a local shoemaker, who also maintained a workshop in the basement. The landlord occupied the other room. Originally part of a row of similar dwellings, the other huts have since been demolished. Adjacent to the museum is Stalin’s personal railway carriage, a green Pullman carriage that is armor-plated and weighs 83 tons, used by Stalin from 1941, including during the Yalta and Tehran Conferences.
- Uplistsiche Cave Town - Explore the town of Uplistsikhe, an ancient rock-hewn settlement in eastern Georgia, located about 62 miles (100 km) west of Tbilisi. Uplistsikhe is recognized by archaeologists as one of Georgia’s oldest urban settlements. Its age and significance led medieval Georgian tradition to attribute its founding to the mythical Uplos, son of Mtskhetos and grandson of Kartlos. The central part of Uplistsikhe is the largest, featuring the majority of the rock-cut structures, and is linked to the southern section by a narrow rock-cut pass and a tunnel. Narrow alleys and staircases extend from the central “street” to various structures. The Uplistsikhe cave complex has been on the tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage status since 2007.

Must do if you want to experience Georgia. - Our tour guide was SO accommodating and friendly. He even offered to buy stuff for us at a cheaper price if the sales people try to rip the tourists off. The orthodox churches of Mtskheta were absolutely breathtaking and beautiful. Next, the drive to Gori takes you along a stunning valley with beautiful mountains and hills along both sides. The museum of Joseph Stalin albeit cheap, did provide an interesting history behind one of the most ruthless dictators in history. Also, the original train car in which he rode all around Russia was one of the best historical experiences I’ve ever experienced. The Gori fortress on the top of the hill offered a great view of the town and the surrounding mountains, practically to yourself! Although the climb can be a little challenging for young kids, it’s not what you’d call hard or long. Lastly, our visit to Uplistsikhe was without a doubt he highlight of the trip. Being able to freely roam around a pre-Christ city carved into the mountains was a true surreal experience. I must give a huge thanks to our guide for providing us with this fantastic tour of Georgia.
