George Washington’s Mount Vernon - Assigned tour guide will recount historical facts of the area while driving along the banks of the Potomac River through the GW Parkway. Upon arrival an 11-minute orientation film courtesy of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association; continued by a guided visit of George Washington restored 1799 mansion. Leisure time on your own to walk and discover innovative farming practices that costumed interpreters demonstrate (April through October) Original and reconstructed buildings that shows what life was like on this 18th-century plantation, George & Martha Washington 1831 Tomb. Walk into the D.W Reynolds Museum where you will grasp GW legacy, experiencing the revolutionary war 4D theater, ending your visit at the gift shop.

George Washington’s Mount Vernon - IMPORTANT information about Mansion Revitalization Project.
From 2023-2026, Mount Vernon will embark on a landmark preservation project to safeguard the Mansion’s original building fabric and ensure its structural integrity for generations to come.
What to expect:
Mansion
Due to ongoing preservation work, the Mansion’s New Room is not on display.
In November, the New Room, Servants’ Hall, and Kitchen will be open. All other rooms in the Mansion will be off-view.
Education Center
The Education Center exhibit on George Washington’s life is closed for an extensive rebuild and will reopen in 2026.
The museum exhibit Mount Vernon: Story of An American Icon, located next to the Education Center, remains open.
Phase 1 (January – July 2024)
All rooms except for the New Room and Cellar are open.
Phase 2 (August 2024 – January 2025)
The New Room, Servants’ Hall, and Kitchen are open. All other rooms are off-view.
Phase 3 (January – October 2025)
The New Room, George Washington’s Study, Servants’ Hall, and Kitchen are open. All other rooms are off-view.
- Old Town - On your way back, 1749 Old Town Alexandria would be explored, pointing out relevant historical events and landmarks that are often overlooked by travelers. A sightseeing drive crossing the Potomac will bring us back into the nation’s capital, ending this wonderful and unique experience.
