• Mauao Adventures - In this beginner Waka Ama session, participants are introduced to the fundamentals of paddling an outrigger canoe with guidance from experienced local Māori instructors. The experience starts on land with setting up equipment, receiving safety instructions, and learning about paddling techniques, seating arrangements, and teamwork. Participants then head to the water to practice their strokes, timing, and coordination with their team while exploring the coastline of Mount Maunganui and taking in the stunning views of Mauao and the surrounding coastal landscape. Throughout the session, instructors offer support and feedback, helping participants to gain confidence, collaborate effectively as a team, and connect with the ocean in authentic coastal conditions.
