• Cenote Sambula - Begin the day with a journey 45 kilometers from Mérida to explore a cave cenote. This closed-type cenote is nestled within a grotto, accessible via a masonry staircase leading to a spacious chamber illuminated by electric lights. The water is crystal clear, with a surface area approximately 30 meters long and 8 meters wide, and a depth ranging from 1 to 8 meters. It’s perfect for swimming, discovering the underground chambers, and exploring. The cenote also offers a very shallow area for those who prefer to stay and cool off comfortably.
• Xtampú - After refreshing at the cenote, the next stop is the pink lagoon along the Dzemul–Xtampú road. With a bit of luck, flamingos might be spotted as they pause to feed during their migratory journey across the Yucatán Peninsula.
• Laguna Rosada - Following the flamingo watching, the tour continues to the Xtampu salt flats, a pink paradise along the Emerald Coast. Here, the stunning pink waters, colored by high salt concentrations, can be admired. The intensity of the pink hue varies with the season. The best time to witness the vividly pink lagoons is during spring and before the rainy season begins.

While touring the salt flats, observe the salt ponds and learn about the traditional salt cultivation and harvesting process, a practice dating back to the ancient Maya. Witness how the salt is currently ground for human consumption.

• Playa Progreso - After exploring the salt flats, travel along the coastal road to Puerto Progreso, one of Yucatán’s most iconic beaches, renowned for its sea breeze and white sand. Progreso is Yucatán’s main deep-water port, located 36 km north of Mérida. It’s a favored destination for locals seeking a relaxing day or weekend at the beach.

Here, the main highlights of the area will be shared, along with information on top attractions and activities. Enjoy three hours to relax on the beach and stroll along the boardwalk. Recommendations will be provided on dining options or beach clubs to visit, catering to both budget-friendly and upscale preferences.

After the beach visit, the journey will conclude with a return to Mérida.

Please note that the ponds at the salt flats appear pink only from March to August. During the rest of the year, their color is more brownish. While visitors can still explore the salt flats and learn about salt production, the water will not be pink. From September to February, travelers have the option to visit a nearby archaeological site instead, or they can spend additional time at the cenote or Progreso Beach.
