Rongai - On the second day, traverse Kilimanjaro’s moorland with Mawenzi Peak in view. The morning involves a steep climb where altitude may become noticeable. Visit the first cave and have lunch near the second cave. The afternoon offers a gentler trek across the moorland to a campsite in a sheltered valley. Trekking time is approximately 6-8 hours.

Kikelewa Camp (3,600m/11,800ft) to Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m/14,200ft)
Rongai - Today’s hike is in the morning, with an afternoon rest to aid acclimatization. The trail is short but steep, offering magnificent views and a sense of wilderness. The campsite is situated below Mawenzi Peak, providing breathtaking views of both Mawenzi and Kibo.

Acclimatization Walk & Return to Mawenzi Tarn Camp
Rongai - Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as you remain at Mawenzi Tarn for another night, eliminating the need to pack. Spend the morning on an acclimatization walk. Depending on your condition, this can be a steep ascent up the scree slopes towards Mawenzi’s peak, or a gentler climb to the ridge or lunar desert, visiting the intriguing site of a plane crash.
Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m/14,200ft) to Kibo Huts Camp (4,700m/15,410ft)
Kibo Huts (4,700m/15,410ft) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,340ft) then descending to Horombo Huts (3,720m/12,200ft)
Kilimanjaro National Park - Around midnight, commence the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point. For the next six hours, hike by flashlight. The ascent to the crater rim is the trek’s most demanding section, featuring steep switchbacks and a rocky area known as Jamaica Rocks, leading to the crater rim at Gilman’s Point (5,756m). The hike from Gilman’s to Uhuru Peak is a gradual climb and relatively easy, though the altitude makes it feel lengthy and exhausting. After celebrating at the summit, descend to Kibo Huts for a meal, then continue down to Horombo Huts to camp. Total trekking time is about 14 hours, so prepare for a challenging day.

Conclude your trek with a descent to the Marangu Gate. Your final hike on Kilimanjaro is a scenic one, passing through the cloud forest. This trek takes approximately 5-6 hours. At the gate, you will be greeted and transferred to Moshi.
