Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast and a briefing from your guide, leave Moshi at 9 AM, drive for 45 minutes to the Marangu Gate on the eastern side of Kilimanjaro, register with the national park, and begin hiking at 10:30 AM. In the rainforest, look for towering Eucalyptus trees, bird life, and Colobus monkeys. At these lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy, so gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts should be sufficient, but keep your rain gear and warmer clothing handy. Stop halfway for lunch, and reach the Mandara Huts at 2 or 3 PM. Unpack, rest, and have some tea or coffee. A 15-minute side trip to Maundi Crater is a good way to see the surroundings including Northern Tanzania and Kenya. Dinner is served during the early evening at 7 PM. Bathrooms with running water are available

The Marangu Route, often referred to as the “Tourist Route” or the “Coca-Cola Route,” is renowned for being the most popular path on Mount Kilimanjaro. Its popularity has earned it a “touristy” reputation, and it is the only route that provides sleeping huts where beverages like Coca-Cola are available. This route is considered the easiest way to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro, hence the nickname “Coca-Cola Route.”
The Marangu Route offers a gentle journey through lush forests and moorlands, eventually crossing The Saddle, a high-altitude desert that separates the main summit, Kibo, at 5895 meters, from the rugged Mawenzi, at 5149 meters, leading to Kibo Hut. From this point, climbers make an early start to ascend to Uhuru Point, the peak of Kibo. The trail zigzags up steep scree, which is more manageable when frozen.
The views from the crater rim at Gillman’s Point at dawn are often breathtaking, with Uhuru Peak located just above.
