Lake Chala is a caldera lake fed by clean, cold underground streams from Kilimanjaro itself, and it’s renowned for its gloriously changing colours; from deepest turquoise to emerald green to azure and all colours in between. It’s a perfect place to relax and unwind and you’ve the choice of hiking the picture-perfect countryside around the lake, swimming in its sparkling waters (don’t forget your cozzie!) or kayaking across the border to Kenya. Lake Chala Safari Camp is a breathtaking private wildlife park ideally located with vistas of Lake Chala. On arrival, our guide will escort you to the lake’s edge, leading you through a vibrant tapestry of greenery, presenting a clear, azure lake in the backdrop. The terrain can be somewhat rocky near the lake, so bring solid shoes. This scenic locale is ideal for trekking enthusiasts and birdwatchers, and if the season is right, you might catch a glimpse of elephants congregating around a distant watering hole. Spend the day meandering along the trails around the lake or extending to the neighbouring savannah, where sightings of baboons, vervet monkeys, and blue monkeys are common, along with potentially spotting the elusive dik-dik and elegant kudu.
