Big Tree Camp (2,780m) – Shira 2 Camp (3,900m) | 16 km | 7-9 hrs

Shira 2 Camp (3,900m) – Lava Tower (4,630m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m) | 10 km | 6-8 hrs
Kilimanjaro National Park - This day is crucial for acclimatization, ascending to the iconic Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp. This trek aids in adapting to higher altitudes while offering stunning views of the Western Breach.
Barranco Camp (3,960m) – Karanga Camp (4,035m) | 5 km | 4-5 hrs
Kilimanjaro National Park - The day begins with an exciting climb up the Barranco Wall. After overcoming this steep yet manageable challenge, the trek continues through alpine desert landscapes to Karanga Camp for an overnight rest.
Karanga Camp (4,035m) – Barafu Camp (4,680m) | 4 km | 4-5 hrs
Kilimanjaro National Park - Following a hearty breakfast at Karanga Camp, the trek proceeds to Barafu Camp, the final base before the summit attempt. The trail becomes steeper, and the landscape shifts to a stark, rocky environment with minimal vegetation. Along the way, stunning views of Kibo Peak and the southern glaciers offer a glimpse of the summit experience.
Upon reaching Barafu Camp, there is time to relax, hydrate, and enjoy an early dinner. The camp is perched on a rugged ridge, providing sweeping views of Mawenzi Peak and the expansive plains below. Guides will brief on the upcoming summit attempt, ensuring thorough preparation for the challenging ascent.
After dinner, it’s time to retreat to the tent for much-needed rest, as the summit push begins just before midnight.
Barafu Camp (4,680m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,090m) | 17 km | 10-14 hours
Kilimanjaro National Park - The summit push starts just after midnight, climbing steep switchbacks through the cold night. The trek to Stella Point (5,739m) is the most challenging part, but reaching the crater rim rewards with a breathtaking sunrise over Africa. A final effort leads to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the highest point in Africa!
After celebrating this achievement, the descent back to Barafu Camp allows for a short rest before continuing to Mweka Camp (3,090m). The descent is long but easier, and the last night on the mountain is enjoyed with a well-deserved meal and deep sleep.
Mweka Camp (3,090m) – Mweka Gate (1,640m) | 10 km | 3-4 hours
Kilimanjaro National Park - The final morning on Mount Kilimanjaro begins with a relaxed breakfast at Mweka Camp before embarking on the last trek to Mweka Gate. The trail winds through lush rainforest, offering beautiful scenery and the chance to spot Colobus monkeys and various bird species.
Upon reaching Mweka Gate, an official summit certificate is awarded—a proud reminder of the incredible journey. The Burigi Chato Safaris team will be there to congratulate and transfer back to Moshi.
Enjoy a well-deserved hot shower, a comfortable bed, and the joy of reflecting on this unforgettable adventure!
