The Call of Kilimanjaro

As a wildlife photographer and an avid adventurer, the allure of Mount Kilimanjaro had always been a whisper in my ear, a distant call to the wild that I could no longer ignore. The Lemosho Route, known for its high success rate due to excellent acclimatization opportunities, seemed the perfect path for my journey. I chose to embark on this adventure with Girls Adventures Tanzania, a decision that promised not just a trek, but an empowering experience.

From the moment I arrived in Moshi, the excitement was palpable. The team at Girls Adventures Tanzania welcomed us with open arms, and the camaraderie among the group was immediate. The Ascent Begins

Our journey began at Londorossi Gate, where the lush forest enveloped us in its embrace. The air was thick with anticipation as we made our way to Mti Mkubwa Camp. As we ascended, the landscape transformed, revealing the savannah’s tall grasses and volcanic rocks draped in lichen.

The climb was as much a mental challenge as it was physical. The encouragement from my fellow trekkers, a group of strong and inspiring women, was a constant source of motivation. We shared stories, laughter, and moments of quiet reflection, each step bringing us closer to the summit and to each other.

The days were long, but the rewards were immense. Reaching the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on earth, was a moment of awe. The view of Kibo’s glaciered peak was a reminder of the majesty of nature and the journey we were undertaking.

Reaching New Heights

As we continued our ascent, the landscape shifted to the stark beauty of the alpine desert. The climb to Lava Tower was challenging, but the sense of achievement upon reaching it was unparalleled. The guides ensured we were well-fed and hydrated, their expertise in acclimatization crucial to our success.

The final push to Uhuru Peak was a test of endurance and willpower. The night was cold, the air thin, but the spirit of the group was unyielding. As the first light of dawn broke, we reached the summit. Standing at the top of Africa, watching the sunrise paint the sky in hues of orange and pink, was a moment of pure magic.

This journey was more than just a climb; it was a discovery of inner strength and resilience. The bonds formed with my fellow adventurers, the shared triumphs and challenges, made this experience unforgettable.
