Day 1: Nairobi-Arusha to Moshi
Moshi - Guests will be picked up from their hotel and transferred to the shuttle office. They will then travel to Moshi in a luxury shuttle and be dropped off at Springlands Hotel for an overnight stay, including dinner, bed, and breakfast. If arriving at Nairobi or Arusha Airport, please provide flight details for pickup arrangements. In the evening at the hotel, guests can select their mountain gear, such as sticks, boots, and sleeping bags. They will also meet their guides for a briefing and be introduced to the porters.
Day 2: Machame Gate to Machame Camp.
Mount Kilimanjaro - The day begins early with a briefing, followed by breakfast and a 45-minute drive from Moshi (910m) to Machame village (1490m). Guides and porters will prepare and pack supplies and equipment. Depending on road conditions, it may be possible to drive from the village to Machame gate; otherwise, a 3 km walk through mud will take about an hour. After registering at the gate office, the ascent begins into the rainforest. A lunch pack is provided at the gate, and bottled water from Springlands Hotel in Moshi is available. Rain is possible in the forest. In the evening, porters will boil drinking and washing water, and the cook will prepare dinner before guests retire to their tents. Night temperatures at Machame campsite can drop to freezing.
Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Camp.
Mount Kilimanjaro - Guests will rise early at Machame camp, and after breakfast, they will climb for about an hour to the top of the forest, followed by a gentler 2-hour climb through the moorland zone. After a short lunch and rest, they will continue up a rocky ridge onto the Shira plateau. By this point, they will have a view of the Western Breach with its stunning glaciers to the east. They will be west of Kibo and, after a short hike, will reach the Shira campsite at 3840m. Porters will boil drinking and washing water before serving dinner. The night at this exposed camp will be colder than the previous night, with temperatures dropping well below freezing. Very warm jackets will be provided unless guests are from Alaska.
Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp.
Mount Kilimanjaro - The route turns east into a semi-desert and rocky landscape surrounding Lava Tower, reaching an altitude of 4630m after about a 5-hour walk. Lunch is served in a designated area before ascending the rocky scree path to Lava Tower (4630m). This is the toughest day so far, and some climbers may start to feel symptoms of breathlessness, irritability, and headaches. After lunch, guests will descend by almost 680m to the Barranco camping area. After reaching the high altitude of 4600m at Lava Tower, the true acclimatization benefit of this day becomes clear. The descent to Barranco camp takes about 2 hours and offers great opportunities for beautiful photographs of the Western Breach and Breach Wall. The camp is situated in a valley below the Breach and Great Barranco Wall, providing a memorable sunset while waiting for dinner preparation and overnight stay at Barranco Camp site.
Day 5: Baranco / Karanga Valley Camp to Barafu Camp.
Mount Kilimanjaro - Exposed to the ever-present gales, tents are pitched on a narrow, stony, and dangerous ridge. Guests should familiarize themselves with the terrain before dark to avoid accidents. The summit is 1345m up, and the final ascent will be made the same night. Equipment, ski sticks, and thermal clothing should be prepared for the summit attempt. This includes replacing headlamp and camera batteries and ensuring a spare set is available. To prevent freezing, water should be carried in a thermal flask. Guests should go to bed around 19:00 and try to get some rest and sleep for no more than 5 hours.
Day 6: Barafu Camp/ To Summit and Descend.
Mount Kilimanjaro - Guests will rise around 2:30, and after some tea and biscuits, they will head off into the night. They will ascend in a northwesterly direction through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim, a 6-hour walk. At Stella Point (5685m), a short rest is taken, and guests are rewarded with a magnificent sunrise (weather permitting). From Stella Point, snow is usually encountered all the way on the 2-hour ascent to Uhuru Peak. Time spent on the summit depends on weather conditions. Guests should not stop for too long, as it will be difficult to start again due to cold and fatigue. They can enjoy their accomplishment and a day to remember for the rest of their lives. The walk back to Barafu from the summit takes about 3 hours. Here, guests will have a well-earned but short rest and collect the rest of their gear before heading down to Mweka Camp (3100m) for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Final descent from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate.
Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast, guests will continue down from Mweka Gate into Mweka village, typically a muddy and long hour walk. In Mweka village, they will drive to Springlands Hotel and be served a delicious hot lunch. A long overdue hot shower awaits, and they will overnight at Springlands Hotel. Tips are recommended and highly appreciated at the end of the trip. Tips can be given to the guide at Springlands Hotel. This is also where successful climbers receive their summit certificates. Climbers who reached Stella Point (5685m) receive green certificates, and those who reached Uhuru Peak (5895m) receive gold certificates.
Day 8: Moshi to Arusha
Nairobi - Breakfast is served at 6:30 a.m., followed by departure for Nairobi with a morning luxury shuttle. Guests will arrive in Nairobi and be dropped off at the airport or a hotel within Nairobi. If departing from Kilimanjaro airport, airport transfer arrangements will be made.
